Sonification is the process of turning data into sound. Scientists and Artists have used this process to make a myriad of funky noises describing the universe and it's phenomena. During the month of May 2021 I spent 3 weeks programming new methods to turn data into music, not just random sounds.

What you're about to hear is the interpretation of Hydrological data from the McKenzie River in Eugene Oregon. The data used maintains roughly 95% of it's integrity when converted to music through my code. You will be listening to compositions written by nature in which my part was providing the toolset and the key for the pieces. This is the music of the river.

River Music Introduction - Listeners Guide

Gut instinct said you'd like this. I'm working on building a live set now, it's something I've never done before outside of playing piano and singing, so I'm making new songs that can be played electronically live. Somehow I want to get people dancing, but also listening to the music, and at the end of the performance I would like for the narrative to introduce Movement based synthesizers where dancing controls the music. Slowly I've been merging all of the pieces together, but in the meantime I wanted to share this as I spent time one it!
