Blur Records is back to present the return of the prolific Columbian DJ, producer and sound engineer - Joint4Nine - and the second part of his EP now entitled "My Feelings For U Pt. II", which includes remixes by the talented US-based Reggie Dokes and British wunderkind Last Nubian.

Based in Bogotá, the co-founder of the electronic music duo Rush City and record label Nómada now delivers this wonderful EP as a precursor to his full album coming out with Blur Records later this year entitled "Like The Summer Sun".

The opening track entitled "Like The Summer Sun" is a vibrant and captivating composition with its calming yet upbeat tempo, featuring a prominent housey vocal that perfectly encapsulates its infectious energy, in this wonderful soundtrack for a summer day.

The second track is the heavy-duty "Beat Em Up" remix of "Like The Summer Sun" by Reggie Dokes, which features pounding drums and driving basslines, alongside a melodic synth breakdown and a gospel-choir-infused vocal that creates a powerful and uplifting atmosphere.

Next, we have "Let's Keep It Real" the second original track by the Columbian producer, a combination of fiery Caribbean rhythms, colourful drums, and vibrant chords. The track features a punchy bassline that drives the song's infectious groove, while the fast-paced percussion keeps the energy high.

The second remix is by the talented London-based producer Last Lubian, who delivers a wonderful reinterpretation of "Let's Keep It Real", with its driving bassline and infectious hook, Last Lubian brings a club-ready energy to the track, with a combination of synths, samples and live instrumentation that creates a unique, contemporary sound.

Lastly, we have the final track of this EP, the edited version of "Like The Summer Sun" by Joint4Nine, featuring a relentless bass and a housey vocal that now stretches throughout this track, in what is a perfect close to this EP.

From Spain to Scotland, Yesca has landed in Glasgow to bring his production and mixing talents to the scene. Paired with Danbe, he co-owns the label Y4 collective who have just successfully thrown an underground house night at Broadcast as well as pushing releases on three VA compilations with DJs from both Spain and UK scenes. 

Yesca has also been featured on releases for Nervous Records, Slow Supermarket, TheBasement, Happiness Therapy and Eton Messy, with these tracks being played out by Disclosure, Adryiano, Fouk and Eliza Rose as well as featuring on Emerald’s Track ID playlist on Spotify.

He's provided us with one hell of a mix so crack open a tinny, get up from your sun lounger and blast this one out for the next hour x

Jovella is a femme and queer identifying San Diego based DJ, a small but mighty force to be reckoned with. She pulls inspiration and practices self expression through music, event curation, fashion, advocacy, and other creative mediums. 

Jovella is the Founder and Creative Visionary of Sisiety @sisiety, an organization intended to showcase underrepresented artists such as women and LGBTQ+ folks and curate inclusive experiences that embrace creativity and empower community. She has had the pleasure of playing at Sisiety experiences, other events and festivals around SoCal including lineups from The Afternoon Umbrella Friends, Connect San Diego, Iluvincognito, Veluda SD, San Diego Pride, and more.

Smokin Beats - Do You Know About Love (1997)

"What the hell IS that?" (in case you were wondering what Steve & Bill were saying in the thumbnail image.)  

As ever, working on Interbay tracks in the Lab is pure science of discovery.  You can have an aim in mind but what you end up with is probably going to be nothing like what you thought you were going to get.  And that is certainly true of today's Interbay track--so, the title of "You Know What It Is?" is spot on.  

(The answer being "This is the new sound."  Though, to be honest, I'd say that most of the sounds in this track aren't all that new.  Perhaps the combination of all of these sounds is new.  To me, it just sounds like Interbay.)

I wanted to produce a hiphouse track.  Some of my favorite years of being a club dj were when hiphouse was big--combining the energy of house music with elements of hip hop was exactly what I was looking for when it started happening.  I've always felt like the genre wasn't given the respect it deserved and most of the artists who made it are completely unknown to the kids of today, who might really enjoy it.  (Or, perhaps I'm projecting a bit...simply because I have so much fondness for it.)  

Doesn't matter quite so much, because I really didn't end up with a hiphouse track.  

As usual, a whole stew of ingredients got tossed into the pot and heated up.  Some tribal house drums, some disco drums and keys, some afrohouse percussion and vocals.  And then I Interbay'd all over it, with glitchy strings and a radio static inspired keyboard sound...and tempo and pitch twisted vocal snips from a sort-of-hiphouse track made in the UK, a track that was very popular for me in my dj sets back then...but almost unknown now.  Sadly.  (But, it probably means that Icarus won't be bothered.)  

There's a bit of lo-fi vibe in this track too--which probably has more to do with my occasional impatience in getting a track from the Labs and presented here on SoundCloud than a purposeful attempt to do a lo-fi afro disco hiphouse tune.  

I hope you like whatever this is.  (You know what it is--it's the new sound!)  

Give it a listen.  Give it a like.  Repost it, share it, add it to a plyalist, comment on it.  Go ahead, bend it, spindle it, and mutilate it if you feel you must.  Just knowing someone else has heard this track makes this old hiphouse fan but evidently incapable of actually making hiphouse music producer feel more connected--which is nice.

This schedule allows me to incorporate different styles and blur various genre styles together.  (Which reminds me, been awhile since a proper post-punk or cyberpunk track.)
