"This is a tape of songs that feel weirdly Christmassy (that was the working title of the playlist actually!). I don’t really love actual Christmas songs - except for the singular example in this mix. These are all tracks I listen to getting ready for Christmas parties, they get me in the mood without beating me over the head with Michael Bublé. They jingle, there’s an occasional sleigh bell, and if you have Winter blues some of them are actually about Summer."

"My tape is inspired by a sense of playfulness and fun. I’m working on several projects at the moment, one of which is a course on clowning and improvised comedy, and those two words keep popping up the most. For me, it’s important to keep a sense of playfulness in everything I create.

So this selection is of songs that have recently inspired me to be playful, or have a sense of play about them, or that I’ve been having a lot of fun playing out when DJing."

"I was sketching in a coffee shop, using a book called ‘Death’ I found at the Wellcome Collection as inspiration and noticed at the beginning of the book there was a label that said ‘Ex Libris’, and that pretty much guided my choices for the tape! ‘Ex Libris’ is a bookplate inscribed to show the name of the book owner. My tape is a selection is split into three parts - a beginning, middle and end - much like a book, or a lifescape. Start with hope, then a little bit of pleasure/pain/loss, and then it slows down a bit…" –JS
