The Bul Bey is West Philadelphia’s best kept secret. Displaying a style and content that isn’t predictably Philly, on “Where I’m From, “Bey tackles the subject of growing up and residing in Philly’s inner city. It can be a dangerous and beautiful place. When referring to people living in Philly, Bey raps, “Women hold down two jobs just to hold up their sons. They holdin down the world but they never hold their tongue.” The track also features newcomer, Davon from New Jersey who shares his own take on the ups and downs of his own hood. Where I’m From is a feel good jam that should have everyone at this summer’s BBQ’s singing the hook. The digital single is available via Illvibe Media on July 29, 2014.
