Welcome to July 2023's Exclusive Series Mix.

Il Modo are delighted to present, this brilliantly constructed set from the ever popular and hugely talented Ewan Douglas.

Hailing from Forfar, Scotland Ewan's first taste of electronic music came from being introduced to those fabled "NOW THATS WHAT I CALL MUSIC" mix tapes, listening to Steve 'Silk' Hurley & MARRS. Even then knowing it sounded new and different to anything else, he carried on into his teens listening to mix tapes from the legendary Rhumba Club, in Arbroath. 

Like so many others, it was the seminal Northern Exposure CD's from Sasha & John Digweed that inspired Ewan to buy some decks. Grabbing the chance to play at any opportunity, Ewan and friends practised to perfection, became Rhumba regulars and were subsequently blown away when Digweed played there. 

It was a long time after, during the lockdowns and restrictions of 2020/21 that Ewan found himself drawn back to the music, Digweed's legendary Bunker Sessions having a huge impact. Forced away from public meetings, it was the online community that joined together to give people what they were so badly missing. Before too long, GlobalProg was born, a collective of like-minded individuals from all over the world, who dedicated themselves to a series of online live streams, playing for themselves and friends initially. Now over three years on, GlobalProg has grown exponentially and are still beaming live-streams into people's homes around the world, whilst adding exclusive streams from the likes of LopezHouse and Mind Of Us to their roster.

More recently, GlobalProg moved this concept into a live scenario. No longer restricted by Covid, their first night out in March this year recorded a resounding success, featuring Ewan, co GP founder Alan Marshall, and none other than Bedrock's Nick Muir behind the decks.

Ewan continues with his online shows, with guests such as Miles Atmospheric, as well as other guest mixes such as this one. For the future, Ewan is just beginning his journey into production, finding influences from the likes of Sven Vath, Jonathan Kaspar, Luke Brancaccio and of course Nick Muir. 

We hope you enjoy this extended set, where Ewan blends dreamy vocals, atmospheric breaks, deep melodic cuts and sharp progressive sounds, all into one beautiful journey. Enjoy x

Back a couple of weeks, we debuted the Progcast in Hungary, well we loved it so much we  had to go back! Now based in the UK, Il Modo is very proud to present Jose Tabarez !!

Hungarian born, UK based Progressive House DJ/Artist, Jose's interest in electronic music started with '90s band The Prodigy, and the techno genre dug into his heart. From that day, electronic music  has become the cornerstone of his life.

In the 2000s he was introduced to Progressive House, Jose loved the magical melodies and feeling of this genre. Over the years, he has tried various underground electronic musical trends and mixed them with broken beats to give them an un-edged music style but Prog & Techno have always stayed in his heart. When Jose began producing in 2010, back then break beats were a big influence on him.

Jose has already been supported by big DJs, such as Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Anthony Pappa, Darin Epsilon, Fernando Ferreyra, Nick Varon and Frangellico. In 2013, he started hosting his own radio show "Progressive Stories" on American Internet radio station, Pure.FM. His hard work and respect to the scene during this time gave him the opportunity to get involved in managing and organising big events, such as "The Break of Dawn" & "Classic Progressive Journey".

In early 2017 Jose joined Consapevole Recordings as a Label Manager. He brought a new image to the label and is  still continuing his passion for Progressive House with this respected marque.

Nowadays Jose's sound has changed to more of a deep but energetic melodic number. Anchored by smooth, rolling bass tones his tracks methodically work their way through a variety of subtle motifs, from a delicate vocal narrative to panning musical fragments. Rich in character and wonderfully shaped, they set a fluid groove for all of Jose’s subtle melodies to work their magic. Jose always pays attention to the details of sounds which balances your mood at the end of the journey.

The Progcast - Episode 186 - Jose Tabarez

I'm going to try and put into words some context about this live set recording in a magical space, with amazing cool people and an uplifting atmosphere.   This set was recorded live on Saturday afternoon. I started around 5:30pm and played for an hour and a half. 

From the first record I had none other than Nick Muir (John Digweeds right hand man) by my side egging on the crowd for me.  We had so many laughs I can't even remember what about.

I knew it would be a challenge to keep the dance floor busy as I was playing on the  inside stage on a very hot day.  People would come in get into it and start dancing, then overheat and leave.  We would do the same thing no matter how great the music was.  

There were 4 other stages.  3 of them outside.  The heat was immense over the whole weekend.  Most choosing to stay outside in the shade where every now and then a cool breeze would waft by in the +30 in direct sunlight.

The mini Festival was held in the North East part of NL, called Elp 2 hours from Amsterdam on the high speed train.  This was their 3rd party if I am correct.   
For me as a long time DJ from the beginning of proper dance music around the early 90's, after playing internationally as a pro dj, this party was very special for me and everyone who attended.

We had 3 friends Tim & Debbie + Chris drive all the way from IOW just to join us for this amazing event.  So we had a mini UK crew that we could share this experience with.  They got there a few hours before us on Friday to set up camp literally right by the main stage.  Tim was texting me before we got there saying this place is awesome.

The people in this festival community are between the ages of 30ish up to as old as i can't even say maybe +70 at least. All veteran music lovers no doubt about that.  Every person was unique, no one had similar style and all dressed to impress in their unique way. 
 
No egos, No chasing guys or girls, no attitude between any of the + 40 volunteers who helped for 6 days 16 hours a day to get this pulled off.

Every Dj i met was supportive and respectful and loving being part of this event.  
Hugs and handshakes with no attitude or ego that I have to say is extremely rare between Dj's.  

I am very honoured to be in this group of talented awesome spiritual people in every way shape and form. 

I remeber saying to my wife Ani  at the end of the night when dancing on the main stage.  The only rubbish i could see was one cigarette butt.  I wish i took a picture as this is unheard of anywhere else i have been.

Everyone was torn between where they wanted to be.  How hot it was in that place, How much energy was needed to be in that place.  How hot they wanted to get dancing in that place and torn between other Dj's in other spaces some spaces cooler some hotter.  Some playing more chilled, some harder and rocking.  You found yourself just wandering about over the whole weekend going with whatever your instincts told you.  I have never been to a Festival where every Dj was playing so good you wanted to stay.  But then other Dj's were also playing really great music and you didn't want to miss anyone.  So choosing who you listened to was a constantly changing pattern following the vibes.

Smiles all round with zero attitude from anyone you bumped into, trod on or spilt drink..!!

What a weekend.  I am really happy with this set. I have held back releasing recent peak time sets for a while now knowing I wanted to record something special, a moment in time captured now forever.

Welcome to our 32nd Il Modo Exclusive Series, October 2023.  This time we are headed back 'Down Under' to Melbourne Australia for a serious belter, a 2.5 hour progressive mix from the wonderful talent that is Pete Gordon.  Thank you Pete.  


"Originally from Wellington, NZ, now living in Melbourne Australia, Pete Gordon’s first taste of dance music was, like many, stumbling upon The Prodigy’s “Music For The Jilted Generation” and the record store geezers suggestion to listen to BT’s “IMA”. This was the first thing to turn him away from the heavy metal, grunge and alternative rock that he pretty much exclusively listened to at the time and when a mate took him out to see Plastikman in 1998, everything changed in an instant!

Bouncing around in the techno and trance scenes for a few years, I was convinced to attend a proper house music gig at a time when I thought that all house music was cheesy radio crap like La Bouche, M People and Real McCoy…how wrong I was! The funk was electric, but there was still something missing, and when I heard progressive house, I knew I had found my home. It was like it had taken all the elements of techno, trance and house that I loved, and smushed them all together in a neat little euphoric and ethereal package.

I first started DJing around 2001 when a mate brought his decks around to my place and the vinyl addiction commenced with fury! Progressive, house, tech-house, techno, breaks, electro I felt were all fair game and always loved weaving sets that slipped in and out of different genres, shades of dark and light. Back in the day in Wellington I was lucky enough to support a lot of big names when they toured through our windy little city; Ali B, Freq Nasty, B.L.I.M, Krafty Kuts and the highlight was closing for Steve Lawler and Nick Warren on their CD release tours for Global Underground “Lights Out 2” and “Shanghai 28” respectively.

My approach to this mix was a deep dive into anything from the last 15 years or so, I don’t care if a tune is old or new, it’s all about how you use it and a quality tune is always a quality tune. Old, new, borrowed or blue, I love digging around SoundCloud for tasty free download bootleg gems and often pepper my sets with a “classic” or a modern re-working of a classic, there’s at least 8 of those in this mix…from deep to organic to progressive to melodic techno and spattered with breaks/electronica, I hope you enjoy the journey!"
