Based off of a melody I wrote at the Jesus, Justice, Poverty Institute in Oakland, California.  May this be restful in times of chaos.

Psalm 155 (Meditative Instrumental)

Lyrics:

Prop did “Precious Puritans” [1], I call this “Imperialist Evangelical” [2] 
Let’s rewind to Manifest Destiny, with the Christian searching for lost souls
His agenda high to the sky to civilize the savage in the wilderness
“Let’s enforce our salvation, and then take the land the belongs to them”
“Let’s erase culture, commit genocide, and deny them their rights”
“Overwrite their story with ours, and do it all in the name of Christ”
“After all, this land isn’t their land, but of the White Heterosexual Man” [3]
And that’s a fraction of Church history many still fail to understand [4]
Too many were crucified by the the military just to protect their land
There might not have been crucifixes, but a Bible and a rifle in hand
More blood has been spilled by the Church than Jesus on the tree [5]
And so if the Church don’t confess and repent, you can call me “Kaepernick”, I might just take a knee [6]
The next time I’m asked to stand to worship in a Sunday Service
You might see me kneeling in the pews asking the Lord for His forgiveness
So, “Good God forgive us, for we know not what we do” 
“And I pray there’s more to the Church than simply professing what is to be true” [7]

Dead to sin, dead to sin, dead to sin, yes I get it
I get we have personal sin, but what about systemic? [8]
Because The Beast has its claws pulling strings, perverting justice
And the wicked part is that it even got the Church, no wonder many don’t trust it
Don’t say “All Lives Matter” and then be silent when another Black Life lost [9]
And ostracize the Queer community, (InterVarsity) [10] I  just wanted to name that bias
Jesus may not have been the Messiah to overthrow the Roman empire
Only because the empire He rises against [11] is bigger than any man could acquire
If “the last are first”, then expect the Lesbian Pilipina Pastor in the seat of honor
And so the closer you are to privilege and power, expect to be sitting further from the Father
I know some people so concerned with the Word of God and hierarchies
They fail to see their lack of grace and mercy, kinda like the Pharisees
Crucifixions keep coming, and the blood from the ground cries out
Dear God, “young prophets are miseducated, incarcerated, they’re dying out” [12]
“Do you hear the cries, do you see the tears, hold the pleas we pray?”
“My God tell me do you, have an answer for the pain?”

[1] Referencing “Precious Puritans” by Propaganda
[2] Evangelism has been historically used to enforce an agenda onto other groups of people
[3] This agenda has often benefitted White Cisgendered Heterosexual Men, pushing the needs and voices of other people groups to the margins.
[4] While many will say “this is all in the past”, we make a grave mistake to recognize the ways in which our theologies perpetuate systems of racism, homophobia, and xenophobia to name a few.
[5] Wars have been and continue to be justified in the name of Jesus.
[6] Until the Church recognizes its sin, I will continue to protest it.
[7] If the Church is all “prayers and proclamation of the Gospel” as a means to pacify the injustice in the world, I question what the Church is after all.
[8] Sin is as systemic as it is personal.
[9] This “All Lives Matter (to God)” rhetoric fails to recognize the racial sin at hand here.
[10] Referencing InterVarsity Christian Fellowship’s decision to have Queer/LGBTQIA+ and/or Queer/LGBTQIA+ Affirming staff step down from their positions.

[12] For all the youth who are deported, incarcerated, and miseducated.  They too are God’s prophets.
