Two Dutch tastemakers  sharing a keen ear for distinct, bass-driven, spiraling sounds 🧬

This set marked a full-circle moment, childhood friends united behind the decks for their first ever B2B set on New Year's Day. The chemistry was palpable from the fun they were having in the booth, which radiated onto the Colorfloor and had everybody locked in, warping the energy into that special night.

For Episode 61 we present Thermal. He is a Malmö based DJ and producer. Fast pace, groovy rhythms, and a touch of randomness, all comes together in a holy mess. This set marks his vinyl only set debut!

Interview with thermal: 

Q: What made you start DJing? 
A: Honestly the love for the electronic music scene I would say. Been playing in bands since I was a kid but the techno scene is very different from other music scenes.

Q: Describe your style in three words. 
A: Groovy, hypnotic, fluctuating 

Q: Your best set in 2024/2025? 
A: Had a fun time opening Tillfällig Dansplats open air last summer!

Malmö Techno Tales Episode 61 - thermal

The original version of the song "UV" was released on the legendary label Ostgut Ton. In consultation with them I am now re-releasing the new edit of the track that has been a big part of my path that goes on til today. File available on my Bandcamp profile.

VRIL - UV (2025 Edit)

Live recording of my opening set for Unfold XC, New Years Day 2025. 

Waking from a world of hazy dreams she flows among landscapes of consciousness, following the very instincts of her primal nature, yielding to in a dance already lost to time itself... 

With less than a week before the well anticipated 100th Unfold, I revisit my opening set from one of the last extended editions, the 90th Unfold back on New Years Day. Every Unfold is an honour to play, but kicking off the first Unfold of the year was a special one for me, and seemed to spark 
the threads of an already gorgeous year. 

Extended Unfold's are a beast of nature. The opening set always sets the tone for an event and for one such as this it was integral to approach this task with grace and consideration. This one is naturally very differen to my typical sound. She takes her time to build the floor, weaving between trance and techno from 125 to 140 over the duration of 2 beautiful hours.

Ilya is a London-based DJ, producer and multidisciplinary artist, known for his intuitive feel for groove, refined taste and forward-thinking approach to DJing and production.

His sets reflect a deep passion, shaped by years of artistic exploration across disciplines.
Ilya has really gone down the wormhole with this one!! Taking us on a journey of classic techno grooves with some tempting elusive vocals, unconventional breaks and shifting hypnotic rhythms.

Juicy Tunes 035 w/ Ilya Gurin-Babayeu

46th episode with drums and flow mixed by Kassy – a French DJ and producer from Paris. He began his career as a drummer in a classical orchestra, discovered electronic music at the age of 16, and has never looked back since.

Today, he is a resident DJ at Conceptual Violence and Subtle Radio. His sound combines club energy with the mentality of a musician. Whether at the DJ booth or in the studio, his approach remains practical, raw, and more emotional than formulaic.  Inspired by y2k electro, house, techno, hip-hop, new wave, and breaks, his sets and productions are characterised by vibrant rhythms, deep chords, and memorable vocal cuts.
