Roro-Chan, also known as Rorochan_1999 or Ruru-chan, was a 14-year-old Japanese livestreamer who committed suicide during a 2013 livestream by jumping off the 13th floor of her apartment building. Roro-Chan believed ending her own life on stream would cement her as a "legend." The story gained increased attention in Japan and the West in 2020 following the release of Shinsei Kamattechan's "Ruru's Suicide Show on a Livestream," a song and music video about the incident, sparking a fan art tribute movement for Roro-Chan. That year, the "Roro-Chan challenge" also spread online, encouraging users to livestream acting like Roro-Chan, sometimes involving self-harm on camera. The video of Roro-Chan jumping from the building also received viral spread online.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO WANT TO KNOW WHAT THIS SONG IS ABOUT: This song is based on the true event of a 14 year old teenage girl named Roro/Ruru chan. Roro chan lived in Japan. Because she was constantly bullied at school and neglected by her parents, she turned to the internet for attention(her account was rorochan_1999). Still, her family and friends say that they never knew anything about this or that she was being bullied though it is said that she has posted online that she's lonely. She began live streaming in 2012 where she played on the piano, sang, vlogged, and etc. However, sometimes Roro chan would do dangerous things for views. She would run across heavily trafficked roads with high-speed limits and would sometimes stand on top of ledges with great height during her streams. In one of her livestreams(Nov. 24, 2013) she went to the 13th floor of her building and began talking about becoming a legend. She thought committing suicide 'live' would cement her as some sort of forever celebrity. A majority of people on the live stream urged her to jump while only a minority begged her to become a legend some other way. The former group won out and Roro chan jumped. Right after she jumped, some viewers reported you could hear her scream, either from natural instinct or regret. She was taken to the hospital but it was too late. She died. Her mother didn't even search for her until it was too late, despite claiming to have heard screams coming from her daughter's room. The FBI deleted her videos(though some of them can be found on youtube, due to other youtubers) and basically covered up the whole situation.... and then a song called 'Ruru's suicide show on a livestream' with a music video animation was posted in 2019. It blew up in 2020. 
More info on her suicide: Roro chan apparently steps onto a box to get herself over the balcony, holding her phone in her hand. Her hands are shaky and the camera wobbles, it finally falls on the ground and is still. Roro chan doesn't appear in the clip, except for her legs in the beginning of the video. Some hope that she didn't commit suicide but there are sadly many sources to confirm she did. Rest in peace Roro chan.
