Cosmo Vitelli presents MEDHEAD REMIXES a digital-only LP featuring remixes from his third album MEDHEAD, released on I’m a Cliché in 2022, which included five tracks created in collaboration with Dutch artist Truus de Groot.
 
Featuring 8 tracks plus an instrumental version, its release a year after MEDHEAD is an opportunity to close this chapter before the next one begins. It is also a reminder of the French producer’s love for reinterpretation, by playfully looking back on the album rather than being revisiting exhaustively.
 
Indeed, in addition to 2 remixes by Cosmo Vitelli himself, he asked producers he appreciates to pick a track of their own choice to remix, without obsessing on necessarily giving them a club dimension. His guests ended up exploring several atmospheres, with a varying ratio between ethereal and more dance-focused moods, sometimes combining both.

It is always with excitement that Cosmo Vitelli remixes his tracks. Down The Hatch is given a “boogie dub” treatment, thanks to bubbling analog synths and old school drum machines, it is a catchy and funky exercise in less is more production. His remix of How Is It To Be You is an elegant exploration of disco-adjacent atmospheres and arrangements. It does a lot with just a handful of elements and functions as a kind of disco dub, simple from a distance and full of detail when closely listened to.

Andrei Rusu is one half of Romanian duo Khidja. His remixes of How Is It To Be You (one vocal version and one instrumental) are dancefloor-focused cuts, with a catchy vibe in part indebted to 80’s dance genres. Underneath the shiny veneer, ominous synths on the verge of dissonance hint at something darker, like the soundtrack of a forgotten giallo.
A long-time friend of Cosmo’s and a producer recognized for his mind-melting output that spans many genres, Krikor remixes 7 Foot Clown In My Bed. The remix sees Krikor in top dub form, with a 10-ton heavy beat, slow, and hallucinogenic. It’s impossible not to sway in slow motion while playing it.

Krokakai came to Cosmo’s attention following his debut release on Glasgow’s Insible, Inc. His version of Trichophilia blends a subdued post-punk approach with more modern production techniques. The result is ear catching and introspective, almost cinematic at times, while remaining danceable.

Up-and-coming producer DJ F16 Falcon, who released a handful of EPs on Notte Brigante and Association Fatale, revisits Down The Hatch. With a plodding, shuffled rhythm and a leftfield, almost IDM feel, this downtempo remix takes the track into a new, forward-thinking dimension.

Dali Muru & The Polyphonic Swarm, a project led by Enir Da, is behind one of Cosmo’s favourite album of 2022. So it was natural for him to ask the producer to contribute to this release, and he picked Patient Zero. Dub-infused, and ethereal but also focused on movement, this half-step version is captivating.

Froid Dub is a duo made up of Stéphane Bodin & François Marché, who previously recorded music together as Bosco at the turn of the century. For their first remix under this name, they deliver a langourously understated take on Just Like His Dad that strips the tune to its bare elements, for a dub as icy as they come.

Cosmo Vitelli will renew his collaboration with Truss de Groot in 2023 for a full album, and this year will also mark the return of his Bot’Ox duo with a new release.

I’m a Cliché’s first release of 2016 comes from label boss Cosmo Vitelli. After a five-year hiatus during which he was kept busy by his band Bot’Ox and relocating from Paris to Berlin, this is the very first release to come out of his new studio located in Berlin’s Marzahn district.

A CRUEL STORY
This emotional uptempo track driven by heartfelt synth work explores the territory of dancefloor melancholia. Influences from genres that end in « -wave » but also from the spirit of sentimental electro are obvious and they are creatively used by Cosmo Vitelli for particularly catchy and elegant dance-inducing results.

CHIENS DE L’ENFER
There’s something ominous in this track with a definite rock feeling which is structured around brooding percussion, hypnotic melodies, sinister synths and an entrancing bass line. Darkness prevails and this is the perfect track to take the dancefloor on a date with the hounds of hell.

KETAMINE KARAOKE
Cosmo Vitelli further explores and reinterprets the melancholic and melodic potential of older genres on this catchy tune that sounds like a lost recording from a forgotten yet influential band that used a bass guitar, gently modulating analog synths and vintage drum machines with a taste for dissociatives on the original sound track of a '70s French film.

A CRUEL STORY (I:CUBE REMIX)
One of our favorite producers in Paris delivers a remix which enhances the hypnotic elements of the original track which he turns into tune tense, dark but quite debonair where low end groove is complemented by tribal percussion. Clearlly, this is a track waiting to be unleashed on the dancefloor.

A CRUEL STORY (FX MCHN REMIX)
Fx Mchn is an up and coming producer from London whose tracks are often played by Cosmo Vitelli. This remix focuses on the funkier side of Cruel Story. Instantly danceable, elegantly layered and with added melodic touches, this track conjures element of the Detroit sound and will work wonders on even the most demanding of dancefloors.

The SPECIAL DELIVERY – the vinyl iteration of I'm A Cliché's EDIT SERVICE – is back. After last year's first instalment in the series that featured acclaimed edits by Red Axes and Rouge Mécanique, this time around we commit to wax four edits that come courtesy of Mannequin Records' A.A. A1. Systa — Driven by female vocals and a LinnDrum groove this mid-tempo edit is a melodic and elegant affair. As the track progresses it becomes more and more ominous and there is no doubt you’ll witness the dance floor breaking down while it’s played.

"Medhead" is Cosmo Vitelli’s third solo album. Featuring eight cuts, five of them being recorded in collaboration with Truus de Groot, lead singer of Dutch new/no-wave outfit Plus Instruments, ‘Medhead’ is a statement to the power of electronic language as a summoner of deep-laid, recursive narratives. Emancipated from normative restraints and nonsensical branding, the album spans everything from slo-drip kraut to wasted disco, through murky motel-pop, neo-kosmische, hip-hop, industrial and, quite obviously, a healthy dose of reconfigured indie-rock motifs. A gravity-defying ode to the weirdness of being, Cosmo Vitelli’s new album bridges gaps and reexamines our reality, which seems so prone to enslave itself to rupture and disjunction. Deluxe version of “Sans Dormir” album gathers, in addition to the LP itself, a bunch of 13 rare tracks from Bot’Ox. 13 tracks produced between 2005, when Cosmo Vitelli and Julien Briffaz officially started their collabroation as a duo, and 2013. Some of them were previously only released as vinyls and could not be found anymore (Lada Rock, Grand Central...), others were only available on digital platforms (Arrogant American Pig featuring the great Kim Fowley, Perfect Pair featuring Foremost Poets, Theme from Mineurs 27...), some others are totally new (Cool Long While featuring Judy Nylon, I Just Can’t Help Myself…). 

Unlike the LP that was conceived as such in a short period of time, no cohesion is to be found in this additional material except from the very own musical Bot’Ox identity. Mixing the codes of club music, krautrock, movie scores, pop, Bot’Ox speak the language of restless nights, whether you spend them on deserted dancefloors, endless roads or in lonely bedrooms.

La version “deluxe” de “Sans Dormir” rassemble, en plus de l’album lui-même, une compilation de treize morceaux rares de Bot’Ox. Treize morceaux produits entre 2005, l’année où Cosmo Vitelli et Julien Briffaz ont officiellement débuté leur collaboration en tant que duo, et 2013. Red Axes is Niv Arzi and Dori Sadovnik, two young men who have always lived in Tel-Aviv and have been making music together since the noughties. Ballad of the Ice is their debut album. Their artistic travels have taken them from the rock scene to the dancefloors, and to creating an album. More than a summary, this LP is an invitation to discover a singular musical identity: a ballad of the ice, a song as light as love and cold as a tunnel, springy as a dance step and deep as nostalgia.

Originally, the two young men were part of the band Red Cotton. Their musical obsessions were very distinct and have never really left them since: post-punk, new-wave, synth-pop, gothic rock, italo-disco and all the other styles with double-barrelled names that flourished in the underground of the western world at the turn of the 70s and 80s. They were barely born then, and Israel was hardly a promised land for these musical trends. Nonetheless, today the people who love these styles, at the forefront of which Cosmo Vitelli, founder of the label I’m a Cliché who signed them, recognise Red Axes’ talent for creating tracks that are not only impeccably referenced but also terribly current, in their production and in their intentions.

In 2009, house and techno made a noisy entrance into their lives. They were DJs by then and Tel Aviv was all hedonism and crazy parties. Red Cotton was over and Red Axes began. In 2012, I’m a Cliché introduced them into a community of people who enjoyed what the musical press could refer to as ‘cold-rave’. Four EPs were released on the French label that discovered sharp acts such as Yuksek, Azari & III and Simian Mobile Disco. Add to these a bunch of edits that went spinning on everyone’s turntables, remixes and originals that attracted labels such as Kill the JD, Throne of Blood, Correspondant, Clouded Vision, Relish and others – these built Red Axes’ reputation as the makers of solid dancefloor tools. Meanwhile, being resident DJs of the Bootleg in Tel Aviv gave them the ability to play versatile, broaden their scope, improve their way of thinking the music. It also allowed them to rub shoulders with some of their favourite DJs, from Ivan Smagghe and Jennifer Cardini to the Cómeme crew. These established DJs quickly became major supporters.

But Red Axes didn’t get lost in a loop of never-ending clubbing. The extent of their research is evident on the album. Apart from beautiful vocals by Abrão, a member of various Brazilian punk bands of the 80s, Arzi and Sadovnik handled all the instruments and machines. The influence of the types of music they love – which aren’t limited to the ones we just referred to – is inevitably present, but translates in unexpected ways. There’s a lot of maturity in these songs, memories, hashed-out feelings. This music could emanate from much older men; it brings on a certain saudade. But it’s never heavy and doesn’t rely on dusty clichés: Red Axes are very current and love to have fun above all else. They tread on ice with a certain elegance, ice that mustn’t crack or melt.

After ‘Head Like Glass’, a pure cold-wave intro, Red Axes take us on a repetitive stroll of light percussion with ‘Kicks Out of You’. Then comes the rock track ‘Watkins’, followed by a brass dub ‘Only a Clown Can Catch an Axe’. The poignant ‘Papa Sooma’ feels like it’s coming out of an old cassette player, and ‘Road to the Hills’ is all intimate house feelings. ‘Neon’ will make you clap your hands on the stage of an urban western, while ‘Candy’ is a toe-tapping Mancunian devil. ‘Bela Lugosi’s Dead’, a Bauhaus cover, adds a layer of groove in the bat cave, and finally, ‘Dreams Like a Tale’ closes the album in a psychedelic mist.

Dopamine Dreams is the latest album by Berlin-based French producer Cosmo Vitelli and California-based Dutch experimental electronic musician Truus de Groot, the driving force behind Plus Instruments. Cosmo Vitelli’s third album, the acclaimed Medhead LP, released in 2022, featured de Groot’s lyrics and voice on several tracks. This collaboration went so well that both artists decided to work together again, and Dopamine Dreams is the result.

I’m a Cliché’s first release of 2016 comes from label boss Cosmo Vitelli. After a five-year hiatus during which he was kept busy by his band Bot’Ox and relocating from Paris to Berlin, this is the very first release to come out of his new studio located in Berlin’s Marzahn district.

A CRUEL STORY
This emotional uptempo track driven by heartfelt synth work explores the territory of dancefloor melancholia. Influences from genres that end in « -wave » but also from the spirit of sentimental electro are obvious and they are creatively used by Cosmo Vitelli for particularly catchy and elegant dance-inducing results.

CHIENS DE L’ENFER
There’s something ominous in this track with a definite rock feeling which is structured around brooding percussion, hypnotic melodies, sinister synths and an entrancing bass line. Darkness prevails and this is the perfect track to take the dancefloor on a date with the hounds of hell.

KETAMINE KARAOKE
Cosmo Vitelli further explores and reinterprets the melancholic and melodic potential of older genres on this catchy tune that sounds like a lost recording from a forgotten yet influential band that used a bass guitar, gently modulating analog synths and vintage drum machines with a taste for dissociatives on the original sound track of a '70s French film.

One of our favorite producers in Paris delivers a remix which enhances the hypnotic elements of the original track which he turns into tune tense, dark but quite debonair where low end groove is complemented by tribal percussion. Clearlly, this is a track waiting to be unleashed on the dancefloor.

Fx Mchn is an up and coming producer from London whose tracks are often played by Cosmo Vitelli. This remix focuses on the funkier side of Cruel Story. The plot had finally been unleashed, a cruel twist of fate which would leave a bitter taste in the mouth for all that heard the story. It had never looked particularly likely that a positive outcome would emerge from the situation, but none had ever imagined it would in the bizarre, chaotic state in which it closed. It is one of Kusuma’s strong suits to produce tracks with a disco kit that go beyond the usual confines of the genre. Here’s a fine example of this. With latin percussion, arpeggios and several layers of melody, the robotic feel is still present but less so than on "Automatone". There's an element of darkness, as hinted by the track title, if they had discos in Tolkien’s universe, DJs would probably spin this.

Two years after the release of his acclaimed debut the “GONG 3000” EP on I’m a Cliché, Jakarta’s best kept secret is back on Cosmo Vitelli’s imprint with four terrific original tracks. Jonathan Kusuma is a producer who has managed in the space of a few releases and remixes to develop a signature sound which mostly relies on taking disco and EBM elements and putting them in new and unexpected contexts, offering us a glimpse of what modern dance music would sound like if house and techno had never existed.

Narcotic, hedonistic, abstract and particularly efficient on the dancefloor, Kusuma’s music is always about quality and never about quantity and so we are particularly thrilled to share with the world the four new tracks that constitute this EP.

Tel Aviv based duo Red Axes takes you on a “Tour de Chile” and we suspect one of the tourist attractions being some dirty leather club hidden in a former gold mine.
Producers and DJs Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi have got a new wave and post-punk background as members of another band called Red Cotton, and one can hear it from the EBM-ish dark techno sounds of the three original tracks featured in the “Tour de Chile” EP. They go along with two remixes by Soft Rocks and Bobmo.

01. “Tour de Chile” follows a mine-trolley on the tracks of hell.

02. “Sun Goes Down” shows some restricted angst with its slow-mo jacking.

03. “On and On” is undoubtedly operated by a nasty robot promoting its own conception of groove.  

04. “Tour de Chile (Soft Rocks dark and stormy remix)” has nothing soft; rather, its binary obsession hardens the mood of the original.

05. “On and On (Bobmo remix)” add the ravey twist that the French Boy is keen on.

Red Axes is a project created by Tel- Aviv Based producers &amp; DJs: Dori Sadovnik &amp; Niv Arzi.
The duo has been performing together for over 6 years, first as members of the new wave / post punk band Red Cotton which is still the moniker they use for some materials today.
After living in Amsterdam and traveling in Europe for a while, the guys returned to Tel-Aviv and began an underground psychedelic electronic party series called "Break It!". 
In 2009, after a year of djing, producing and promoting parties all over Tel Aviv, they established a new vision and concept for all of their artistic endeavors - focusing on house, disco and techno and they started to release their tracks. Their first release "White Murder" came out on Statra recrodings from NYC. They also won a Beatport remix contest with their 
deep and funky interpretation of Yello's "Bostich" under the moniker Red Cotton alongside Shlomi Zidan. In 2011 they realesed "Bela” Ep and "Into My Dreams” on Klasse Recordings. 2012 starts with “Tour de Chile” EP on I’m a Cliché. 
In the Tel Aviv night scene they were booked to play alongside Luciano, Richie Hawtin, Pilooski just to name a few...

I’m a Cliché is proud to present Red Axes’ second release on the label, a few months after their ‘Tour de Chile’ EP. ‘1970’ EP is composed of three new original tracks by the exciting duo from Tel Aviv. These three rays of light in the batcave confirm what stroke label’s head Cosmo Vitelli most in the first place: their talent in smartly winking at dance music history while integrating all the codes of modern production.

1. “1970”, the title track, is a dance ballade with an obvious touch of Balearic. Mixing images of soap-ad kids and fighter planes in the video made to it is like mixing lightness and darkness in their music: very natural after all.

2. “Walk Alone” provides further evidence of this combination: the brisk piece of techno seems a hopping walk through sunny lands at the edge of a ravine.

3. “Joseph Cookies” samples a masterpiece from New German Wave band Malaria and, while keeping the punk flavour, turns it into a slow anthem for captivated dancers.

Red Axes is a project created by Tel-Aviv based producers and DJs Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi. 
The duo has been performing together for over 6 years, first as members of the new wave / post punk band Red Cotton. After living in Amsterdam and traveling in Europe, the guys returned to Tel-Aviv and began an underground psychedelic electronic party series called "Break It!".

In the Tel Aviv night scene they were booked to play alongside Luciano, Richie Hawtin, Pilooski, just to name a few... Playing in Tokyo in summer 2012 was a step further towards transcontinental recognition.

Bot’Ox present “Basement Love”, the first part of their second album “Sans Dormir”. Two years after their previous LP “Babylon by Car”, Cosmo Vitelli and Julien Briffaz decided to unveil this new project through six different moments - call them EPs - like six volumes forming a single story, each one being released every two months. 

The slow title-song “Basement Love” is released as a way of introduction, along three dancefloor remixes that lift this “basement” up in the air.

A1. Basement Love
A spectral voice, some deep bass sounds and resonating drums... This basement could feel oppressive. Instead, it is warm and filled with feelings and loving matters. The vocals are sung by the Foremost Poets aka jOHNNYDANGEROUs who was already featured in Bot’Ox’s “Perfect Pair” EP in 2011. The American DJ and performer is renowned for some underground classics like “Beat that Bitch with a Bat” or “Moonraker”. 

A2. Basement Love (Pachanga Boys Point of View)
Rebolledo and Superpitcher, the two guys from the so-called “hippie dance” act Pachanga Boys, turn the pop song into a 12-minutes-long techno trip. Their faithful use of the original’s parts dramatize the whole as if to bring the song to another level. 

B1. Basement Love (Cosmo Vitelli remix)
Half of Bot’Ox and I’m a Cliché label’s head Cosmo Vitelli gives his personal take on Basement Love. The DJ legitimately aims at rocking the crowd, through characteristic twirling basslines and twisted stacked layers.

B2. Basement Love (Richard Fearless remix)
Richard Fearless, the man behind UK band Death in Vegas makes a paranoid dance track where sirens, storms and inside demons ally. Dark hallucinations come as no surprise from a man whose music has always been psychedelic in various ways.

Red Axes, the duo from Tel Aviv, returns to I’m a Cliché with a third EP with the label: "Silver Bed". The record follows 'Tour de Chile' and '1970', plus few memorable remixes and edits. The three original tracks of 'Silver Bed EP' sometimes leave the dancefloor to a place where psychedelic delight prevails. Aleister Crowley's presence on the cover, the occult honcho adored by all the hooked musicians from the sixties-seventies, seems to point out the pop-culture lineage Red Axes refers to. The growing number of connoisseurs of their sound will recognize the dark but not melancholic atmosphere, and their production skills: effective and precise, never demonstrative.

1. Silver Bed 
Mixing disco punk rythm with reverse guitars, 'Silver Bed' keeps moving forward with assurance and a stoned groove.

2. Queen Spade 
'Queen Spade’s' queen of spades is one of those queens who enjoy poisoning their targets. The acid and heady poison is surely addictive.

3. Red River 
'Red River' drops the binary beat and calls upon an all guitar-riff melody that you would like to hear in an underground seventies movie.
