Immediately after starting the first episode of Westworld, I fell in love the with musical composition and scores throughout each beautifully constructed scene. Even the most minimal and subtle pieces from the show are SO epic and full of emotion. I had to put my two cents in. Enjoy :)

Heavyside Function - Blue Sky Rain (Image.Nation REMIX)

This was one of the last tracks that I wrote on my old laptop, (a 2011 Dell Inspiron lol)before it crapped out and I had to resort to an external HD to even recover this song. 

I wrote this with no real purpose or intent of playing live, nor even releasing as a solo. I guess it's just one of those projects that I truly made for myself. I love building layers throughout a song and taking my time with the overall progression of the track's storyline. Especially without a specific idea in mind. I feel its a true reflection of what direction you want to go in that moment. And the outcome, while not always perfect, is interesting to look back at and reflect on your inspirations for what made you take that direction.....that's primarily what Segment Obsolete is for me :)

This is one of many Image.Nation x Heavyside Function collaborations, with plenty more to come in the future. When we work together in the studio, our biggest struggle is deciding what NOT to do, as we get flooded with great ideas(at least we think so!), and have to determine which ones we want to execute. 

For Reticular Formation, I wanted to create an intro that was more dance-y, almost the rhythm of a 4x4 deep house beat, but with more of a complex kick/snare pattern, which leads into a breakdown of a slow hip-hop -type beat with deep subs that suspend the beat atop those substantial low frequencies. We had most of the track written in Ableton, then Charlie took it upon himself to convert the synth melodies we had written, and recorded them with analog modular synths, (which is where you get that HeavysideFunction analog sound from) and from there we oscillated our lives away till we got the sound we were looking for ;)

We played around with a number of different vocal samples, but ultimately landed on the Biggie vocals from his track 'N**ggas Bleed'. The line of "You just remain as calm as possible, make the deal go through" resonates with me as a general ethos for being conscious of how you feel in any situation, and being focused on getting the outcome that you're striving for, essentially "making the deal go through". This is also why we named the track Reticular formation. A Biology reference to the organization of the nerve pathways in the brain stem that connect the cerebellum, cerebrum, and the spinal cord, ultimately where consciousness is created.

I have recently been extremely inspired by original scores from movies and TV shows. After I wrote a remix for the HBO series, 'Westworld', I was obsessed with writing string and orchestral sections. Even the most simple string chords strike me as epic emotional frequencies. Which is why I landed on the name "Unadorned", meaning plain, simple, not decorated nor fancy.

Law Of Diminishing Returns

I met Brian back in 2013, in GA camping at Camp Bisco. Back then he was making a name for himself throwing renegade sets in the campgrounds and getting people moving to filthy weird music. He’s always been a super dope and supportive homie over the years, and has been an inspiration to me when it comes to confidently sharing my music with the world. No matter how personal or experimental the work is....

Which is primarily why I’m honored to have remixed his track ‘27’. I thoroughly enjoy the original track as much as I did remixing it ~ weaving through the eerie chords and synthetic soundscapes while adding a new flavor ~ I am excited to be a part of a talented group of producers who make up the tunes on this 13 track compilation.
