Erased Tapes and Kranky are pleased to announce the release of A Winged Victory for the Sullen's 'ATOMOS VII'. April 28 sees the first installment leading up to the release of the second full length studio album 'ATOMOS', and score for choreographer Wayne McGregor's long form dance piece. 

McGregor was heavily influenced by the duo's 2011 self-titled debut, playing it repeatedly during practices with his core group of dancers. After noticing the group's reaction with the music, he contacted Adam & Dustin to see if they could write the score for his new oeuvre. 

The duo recorded more than sixty minutes of music over a four month period during the summer of 2013 in Brussels, Berlin and Reykjavik with the help of their longtime collaborative sound engineer Francesco Donadello. This EP also sees the involvement of Ben Frost, who composed the music for McGregor's previous work 'Far'.

McGregor, mastermind behind the Random Dance Company and resident choreographer at the Royal Ballet since 2006, is known in popular culture circles for serving as movement director for the film 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire'. He has also choreographed the Radiohead video 'Lotus Flower' and 'Ingenue' by Atoms for Peace.

After releasing a first glimpse in the form of the ‘Atomos VII’ EP earlier this year, A Winged Victory For The Sullen finally reveal their second full-length album entitled ‘Atomos’, which besides familiar piano, string and drone sounds also sees the duo introduce flurries of electronics, harp and modular synthesisers.

Wayne McGregor, founder of Random Dance Company and resident choreographer at the Royal Ballet, chose to play the album repeatedly during practices with his core group of dancers. After noticing the group's reaction with the music, he contacted Adam and Dustin to see if they could write the score for his new oeuvre. The duo were given complete artistic freedom and they treated the score with the same care and attention as their debut album. They recorded more than sixty minutes of music over a four-month period during the summer of 2013 across studios in Brussels, Berlin and Reykjavik, with the help of their long time collaborative sound engineer Francesco Donadello. During the recording process they realised, that this would become their official second studio album. McGregor provided them with the inspiration to expand their sound palette into more electronic territory, whilst keeping their signature chamber sound, resulting in a very unique record.

京都を拠点にパーカッショニストとして確固たる地位を築く評価の高いサウンド・アーティスト北 航平、その待望となる4thアルバム『Head Towards The Horizon Of Sandy Sea』が完成！

前作『Imbalance Order And World』が＜動＞なら、本作は＜静＞。
アルバムタイトルでもあるM2を筆頭に、全体に流れる淡々と進み行く航海には静かに秘めた熱量を感じさせる。

これまでの持ち味である緻密でスリリングなリズム構築や心を揺さぶる悲しげな旋律はそのままに、今回は世界的にも非常にレアでとても美しい音色を奏でる楽器「アレイムビラ」（カリンバの一種）を更に全面的にフィーチャー、またアルバム全編通して、楽器、非楽器、環境音など、ほぼ生音で構築されており、空間を一変させる様なアンビエント的な優しさをも併せ持った音響芸術作品へと昇華させている。

またM8、M9は、60年代～70年代前半のジャズを彷彿とさせ、ゆったりとした心地良いグルーヴと寂寥感を感じさせる秀逸の出来映えである。

「今回は、自然の風景や環境音を含め普段意識しない空気や水のようにナチュラルに誰もが共存できる＜日常の
空気を豊かにする音楽＞を紡ぎたい。かつ細部まで丁寧に作り込まれたアートを感じるものにしたかった。」
という言葉の通り創られたのがタイトル曲でもある「Head Towards The Horizon Of Sandy Sea／砂の海の
水平線へ向かう」であり、まっすぐ水平線に向かって進んでいくという意思と世界観が表されたアルバムとして
永遠に続く崇高な響きは特筆に値する。

◆プロフィール 　

北 航平（キタ・コウヘイ、kita kouhei）

京都出身在住の音楽家、打楽器奏者。幼少の頃より親しんだピアノ、長年スタジオミュージシャンとして培った打楽器の技術、常に一緒に過ごしてきた絵画の美的感性を駆使し、類い稀な才能の卓越したリズムメイキングと音楽的センスにより唯一無二の音風景を創造するアーティスト。

音楽学校を主席で卒業後、tickでのバンド活動を経て、関西を中心に様々なセッション、レコーディング、ツアーなどの仕事をはじめ、その後東京へ拠点を移す。ドラマー／パーカッショニストとしては、ルーツ系～ブラックミュージック系、クラブ系、ブレイクビーツ系のグルーヴを得意とする。
主な共演は、A Hundred Birds Orchestra、Sly Mongoose、COSA NOSTRA、塩次伸二（West Road Blues Band）、妹尾隆一郎、Flicker Tone、ミトカツユキ、ロケットマン、ROUND TABLE、カルネイロ（Ex.Fonogenico）、Unlimited tone、植村花菜、中村舞子など。

東京での活動を経て2012年末に京都に戻り、音楽制作会社studio guzli【スタジオグズリ】を設立し、ワールドビジョンジャパンTVCM、プロアクティブTVCM、フジ医療器PV、コシノヒロコ展PV、シュウウエムラスペシャルコンテンツなどを始め様々なCM音楽やドキュメンタリー番組の音楽、前衛系舞台の音楽やアプリ開発の音響効果、京都市と造形芸術大学の共催アートイベントのBGMなど幅広く手掛け、放送業界最高の栄誉と言われる第51回ギャラクシー賞CM部門選奨受賞作品の音楽も担当。

2015年、自然音やノイズ、世界的にも珍しい数々の生楽器を用いたブラックミュージックをルーツとするキレのあるビートメイキングと、美しく切ない感情表現の融合により、1stアルバム『endless cycle of rebirth』を、また2016年には2ndアルバム『akashic records』（共LANTERNレーベル）をリリース、世界的評価を得ると同時にアート界隈からのファンも多い。2017年5月には3rdアルバム『Imbalance Order And World』をPROGRESSIVE FOrMよりリリース。
そして2018年5月、待望の4th『Head Towards The Horizon Of Sandy Sea』をリリースする。

フィードバック、ループ、モジュラーシンセを用い、ドローン、アンビエント、ノイズ等の音楽を展開する。ノンビートの中に感じれるリズムを求め、反乱する音の中から音を紡ぎ組み立てる。ソロの他にYES WE ARE ALL MEN(BAND/Doom,Sludge)、The Last Supper(Unit/Noise)でも活動。岡山ペパーランドで長年音響を務め、レコーディングも行う。
2017年3月にデモ音源として「no_image #1」を発表。
