An old piano piece that I never really recorded properly before. Figured it was time to change that.

I typically play a lot of piano during my summer vacation, and sometimes it leads to some new compositions taking shape. This is a quick demo recording on my phone that I thought turned out surprisingly well, considering. Recorded on my parents' old upright piano, in all its out of tune glory.

Summer composition 2023

A great deal of my thoughts lately have been about a dear friend, who is suffering from depression and anxiety and is, much like me, going through the most difficult time a person can experience. When your own mind turns against you and tries to keep you shackled in a fantasy world where everything seems better but nothing really happens, it can be really hard to find, and focus on, those distant lights.

When thoughts are not helpful, I often find music is, because it gives me some perspective and a way to look at things for what they are, without analysing or suppressing. This piano piece is the result of such a process.

My dearest friend, you are one of my distant lights. I sincerely hope you find yours.

Distant Lights

In the process of treating my depression, anxiety and compulsive disorder, there are many obstacles to overcome on the way. This track is me reflecting on my strong, compulsive desire to alter past, present and future to fit me, rather than adapting to reality. Sometimes this is a quiet whisper in the back of my head, while sometimes, it is an overpowering roar effectively drowning out all other sounds, thoughts and emotions.

I also want to announce that I am in fact working on an album of piano music, with pieces written recently but also up to as long as eight years ago. It is my way to channel the energy I have, even on bad anxiety days, as well as a way to have a project that I know I can not only start, but also finish on my own. More info will follow shortly.

Happy new year!

2020 is finally over, and I think some of us are at least as sick of it as the X-mas tree in the picture is of standing up...

This song is by one of my favourite bands, Riverside, and I think the post-apocalyptic setting and feeling of this song is also very appropriate for the occasion. I added some harmonies, just because harmonies, you know.
