"Guiding Light" bears witness to this great responsibility as a mother. Though cradled in a bed of countless failures, I have attempted to give Miss A a secure environment so she can develop into her magnificent splendor. To parent well, I have learned, means continuously doing the uncomfortable work of excavating old stories, which have conditioned my living experience to be one of fear and shame. It is a constant tug of war between the hardened self that has lived here long enough and the forgotten magic that children are so aptly in tune with.

Guiding Light is the reminder I’ve created that I'll carry out the work necessary to keep me a source of light, an anchor, and a place my daughter can always call home.

An emotionally stirring EP that captures the crucial stages of parenting: the hopeful beginnings, the middle, which is filled with worries about whether the parent is doing enough to prepare their child for the world, and the overall life prayer that the parent will always be that safe place for a child to land when they encounter the unavoidable suffering in this world.
