It’s certainly no exaggeration to say that Chris Maico Schmidt helped shape the history of techno in the 1990s with projects like Cybordelics and immortal classics such as “Adventures of Dama.” Mike has always remained a present and driving force in the scene through various projects, and since 2016 he has also been active under his real name, Chris Maico Schmidt. His new EP “The Brightside” traces the sometimes subtle and sometimes radiant glow within sound—from the inside out. “The Joy” celebrates the feeling of pure, unfiltered energy. “The Flow” carries this vibration onward, letting it dance, drift, and connect. Finally, “The Spark” leads back to the very moment when it all began: a single spark that ignites light and movement. With gentle euphoria, rhythmic openness, and emotional clarity, The Brightside EP is an invitation to feel your own resonance—bright, free, and alive.

"Glass and Spiders" is from my 2002 album "Eliminator" released on Suction Records in 2000. This track was basically a jam recorded with a jupiter-6, 808, arp odyssey and roland s-750 sampler sequenced by Cubase on a mac clone.

One of the best Lowfish tracks no one has heard? Dunno but I love this track. Sappy Jupiter-4 melodies meet all my dusty drum machines.

"Hello Tinnitus / A Little Thing Gets By" is a new 7" single from Canadian electro mainstay Lowfish, a preview of his forthcoming "Hypersensitivity" full-length. Lowfish is Gregory De Rocher, and this is suction023. 

Barring last year's "Memories..." album, a compilation of vintage archive recordings, this double-A-side 7" is actually the first new Lowfish release since 2008. While his last 2 albums could best be described as serene and clinical, electro at it's most austere, Lowfish's return to Suction Records, the label he co-runs with Solvent, also marks a return to a more melancholic electropop sound. This is not new territory for De Rocher, but it's been a while since we've heard this kind of direct, fragile emotion from Lowfish. In fact, with their slow, head-knodding 808 beats and wistful synthesizer melodies, these songs could best be described as electro-ballads. 

"A Little Thing Gets By" is almost cute, until the strings fade in - pure heartbreak. "Hello Tinnitus" meanwhile, is the most pure slice of synthpop that Lowfish has delivered since 2002's "Theme to Parked Cars", a firm Lowfish fave for many. While Kraftwerk remains the pivotal electro music reference, only a few electro artists can rival the masters' keen sense of melody and emotional depth — Lowfish is one of those rare electro artists, and this 7" makes that case clear.

Marking his first release of the year, German DJ and producer Boris Brejcha returns with high-energy single ‘Gravity’, out today via Ultra Music.

Clocking in at over nine minutes, it’s an immersive track that takes the listener on a high-octane journey. The melodic breakdown roughly midway through allows Berlin-based singer-songwriter Laura Korinth to apply her ethereal, transcendental vocals, before the thumping kick-drum returns and jolts the single back to life. ‘Gravity’ also features a shortened radio edit and a sombre, downbeat piano edit delivered by Nick Schwenderling.
