Following the tragedy, reports have indicated that in some parishes of Jamaica up to 90% of the buildings/homes have been destroyed or severely damaged, leaving billions of pounds worth of damage and families homeless and without basic needs, like food or clean water.

Peshay Studio Set (1996)

Imogen Pedlar was born into a musical family in Nottinghamshire in 1991 but her parents’ careers took her to Surrey shortly afterwards, and she grew up near Godalming. 

At an early age she began studying the piano, followed by lessons on the violin and double bass, although singing gradually became the dominating musical activity in her life. Her singing career began in earnest when she became a pupil at King Edwards School Witley, where she began her vocal studies with the tenor Philip O’Brien. She sang in a number of school productions and performed outside school in a number of local concert venues, as well as in the City of London.

In time she became head chorister in the Chapel Choir of King Edward’s School, resulting in solos in St.Pauls Cathedral and St. Brides, Fleet Street, as well as some solo engagements at London’s Mansion House and Guildhall. In addition she was a member of Bridewell Opera, where she sang Valencienne in The Merry Widow, Adele in Die Fledermaus and Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, along with a number of concerts of operatic excerpts.

In September 2009 Imogen became a student at the Leeds College of Music where she studied as a mezzo-soprano with Mary Plazas and Paul Nilon. During her time in Leeds Imogen sang the role of Cherubino in West Riding Opera’s The Marriage of Figaro and was part of Ecclesia Ensemble (a SATB Chamber Choir directed by David Condry – Bradford Cathedral) as a soprano. Imogen came out with a 2.1 BA Music (Hons) degree.

After leaving college Imogen spent three months in Germany as an au pair where she looked after two boys whose parents were both opera singers. Since returning to the UK Imogen has been intern at Warner Bros Records, working in the Marketing Department.
