We recently lost a good friend and a key pillar in the disco scene, Stephen Richards. He sticks in our minds for many things... a talented DJ, radio host, and music producer; a devoted father, husband, family man, and friend to many; as a man of discerning taste--a lover of Guinness and the desert island beauty of Lanzarote; as the host and booming voice behind the long-running and well-respected radio show, Disco Daze where many of us spent our Friday nights getting caught up with our community of fellow disco-lovers, the latest releases, and champion of upcoming talent. 

It was an honor to host him multiple times on Spin CIty and to be hosted by the man, himself on the juggernaut that was Disco Daze. Many of us felt the leveling-up of our stature in the scene once we were blessed with the opportunity to make an appearance on Disco Daze because he was such a trusted taste-maker in his scene in Waterford and beyond.

This is a collection of shows that the Spin City family shared with the man in memory of all that he meant to us and to the music. To Stephen, we raise a pint of Guinness and toast you with a hearty 'Sláinte!' We know you're up there helping spin the big disco ball in the sky. Our hearts are with the Richards family during this difficult time.

Craig Smith is back for his quarterly resident slot, and what a treat he has in store for you. Craig recently played a 4 hour hour slot at The Hoochie Coochie club i Newcastle, which is, unfortunately closing down. Having played his first gig for them in 1987 (when the club was based in Edinburgh) Craig played his last one and packed it full of music that has influenced him over the decades.

Co-showrunner and resident @wahinedj returned on 5.1.25 for her first Spin City resident's mix of 2025 and welcomes fellow Atlanta DJ/Producer @soundslikeralo for the first time. Wahine has had the pleasure of joining forces with Ralo and collaborator Ysheso when they hosted Hotmood last year and the trio will come together in February to host Spa In Disco label boss Fran Deeper at a Spa In Disco Showcase event featuring the Ralo/Ysheso release, the Lucid Waves EP.

About Ralo:
Ralo is a Cuban-American DJ/Producer from Miami now residing in Atlanta where he holds monthly residencies at several Atlanta staples including Banshee, MJQ Concourse, Palo Santo and Midcity.

He hosts @soulserviceatl at the legendary MJQ where he has welcomed the likes of Gledd, Hotmood Mickey perez and recently launched a record label under the same name. Italian Afro house and disco maestro, Gledd kicked off a successful launch with the first release hitting #1 on @junorecords Disco/Nu-Disco charts. 

He has graced the decks at The Electric Pickle, Eagle Room, Miami Sound Bar, The Station, Club 50, The Anderson, Vagabond & SQL (Miami), El Garrito (Costa Rica), and most recently @havanarpm Festival (Cuba), @thelotradio @jupiter_disco @tbabrooklyn and @razorntape store (NYC).

Ralo has had the pleasure of sharing the decks with the likes of Kai Alce, DJ Kemit, DJ Sneak, Doc Martin, Oscar G, Frankie Bones, Bad Boy Bill, Jimpster and JT Donaldson.

His most notable productions have released on Jesse Perez’s Mr. Nice Guy Records, DJ Sneak’s I’m a House Gangster, Kerri Chandler’s MadTech Records and Go Deeva. Spin City listeners will find his releases on favorite labels Super Spicy Records,  Discoweey, and Pina Colada Records.

ABOUT CHEWY RUBS
Chewy Rubs, known to his mom as Tom grew up immersed in an eclectic mix of music. He learned to mix rather than learning to drive, wisely buying his first 1200’s instead of a car. He passed his test with flying colors and first graced the wheels of steel in his hometown of Hereford at the legendary Naughty But Nice during the mid-nineties.

Having moved to Glasgow and then onto London he continued his musical education in breaks and Hip Hop listening to the The Operators and by working in a central London vinyl emporium where the endless supply of fresh vinyl, back catalogues and  encircled by renowned shops like fat Cat, Black Market, Sista Ray & Phonica meant he could continuously indulge his passion for rare, limited edition & imported wax.

Production was a natural next step & after mastering Ableton & with the help of Soundcloud, his influences gelled into the Chewy Rubs sound. A steady tranche of killer edits followed w/ support from Greg Wilson, Tiger & Woods, Derek Kaye, Danny Krivit, Fingerman & Yam Who? along w/ a growing fan base of global disco lovers across social media.

Born and raised in a small town in Sweden, Niklas aka Disco Tech moved to Stockholm aged 12 and has been collecting records for nearly two decades since. Hailing from Scotland, Goz has been DJ’ing for over 25 years and in that time has embraced a number of genres from house, hip hop and soul to disco and funk. In the early 1990s he was introduced to the art of mixing vinyl records and from that point forwards, Goz immersed himself in the art of beat matching and building sets - crafting his unique style throughout the 1990s where he would play local parties and get-togethers and, of course  - the all-important pre and post-night out shenanigans.  

After taking a break from DJ’ing in the early 2000s, Goz picked up the reins once again in 2014 and got back to doing what he loves most. Goz has always had an exceptionally diverse taste in music, although he naturally gravitated towards disco, soul, funk and hip-hop genres. 

Goz’s passion for music shines through in his sets, which are carefully curated and crafted to take you on a journey that always leaves you craving more. As one of the most renowned specialists in slow-mo and laid back grooves, when Goz decides to drop down the gears he creates a ‘soundscape’ experience few DJs on the scene can achieve. Similarly, when the disco juices are flowing, and the BPM is cranked up it’s a roller coaster ride and swirling haze of funky basslines, heavenly string arrangements, Afro beats and soulful smokiness. 

As host / show runner of the hugely successful Spin City which airs on New York’s number one House Music Station, www.myhouseradio.fm for a number of years now, Goz has built an extensive and strong follower base who regularly tune in to the two hour show which airs every Sunday at 7pm GMT (2pm NYC). The format of Spin City is a certified winner - with Goz normally presenting the first hour of the show followed by a special guest mix each week. On occasion, Goz will take the whole two hours to treat listeners to prime selections of new, old and classic tracks.  Some of the biggest names on the disco and nu-disco scene have appeared on the show, which has also secured talents such as John Le Visiteur, IMFROMULL, DJ Wahine and Queen & Disco for bi-monthly and quarterly residency spots. Goz also has a keen eye for up-and-coming DJs and producers - spotting undiscovered talent early and giving them a platform to showcase their skills.

During the summer of 2019, Goz teamed up with a group of like-minded DJs and producers to form a new promotion - Black Light Disco. The first Black Light Disco event in June 2019 was an enormous success and has gone on to land its own radio show which also airs on MyHouse Radio FM every Monday from 7pm - 9pm GMT (2pm - 4pm NYC). Since the show started in January 2020, its reputation has grown considerably and BLD now attracts some of the biggest names on the disco and nu-disco scene for guest spots. In May 2020, Black Light Disco formed a partnership with the excellent Samosa Records and Daje Funk Records to present a monthly residency on the MyHouse Radio platform, with label head honchos Les Inferno and De Gama taking over the show for the whole two hours. Airing on the second Monday of each month, The Samosa Funk show is already taking the disco world by storm -the partnership with BLD really taking things to the next level for the promotion. Going forward, Black Light Disco has a number of live events planned, so watch this space for the most up-to-date news on where one of Black Light Disco’s now famous nights will drop next!
