· I do all sorts of audio work, and music is just a small part of it. The most unconventional and exploratory, however.

· That would take a few pages to answer. But in short - the ability to self-organize as a society and transform our existence.

When I first launched this series last month, I wanted to create a space where people could offer an honest piece of themselves, a space that encourages vulnerability as the guiding hand; the idea being that only when we are honest with ourselves can we truly connect with each other. More and more this world seems to encourage a certain guardedness and stubborn independence, as if the only way to stay afloat is to keep ourselves closed off from each other. I think it’s more important than ever that we push in the opposite direction, that we lean into the more tender parts of ourselves that we all carry and admit that sometimes we need others to help us stay upright. And so in its own way, spirit paths aims to be that soft landing place for artists and listeners alike.

When I thought about who I wanted to bring in as my first guest, I knew it had to be someone who really understood the intention for the series, and I can say with confidence that there are very few artists out there whose work better encapsulates these core values of honesty and softness better than Erik M. Erik’s work has been the soundtrack to countless moments of deep introspection in my own life, his music having the ability to open something up deep inside me in the most unassuming and imperceptible of ways, like a slow trickle carving through rock over countless years.

In his mix for spirit paths, Erik M. offers the same reverence for the natural world and its quietest moments that is so present in his own work and infuses it with something that feels profoundly human and outward reaching; soft vocals, guitars, and piano rippling and interweaving with organic textures as if welcoming those lucky enough to stumble upon his private world into its innermost garden, with the trust that they’ll respect the delicate balance that allows all things to thrive and grow. This is a mix that perfectly captures everything I wanted to convey with spirit paths, a beautiful 56 minutes of heart on your sleeves transparency that feels like a leap of faith into the soft arms of someone who understands the things that you can’t quite put to words.
