Q&A w/ DJ Hyperdrive.

Are there any upcoming events or news you want to highlight in your career?
I’m playing my first Boiler Room this year, my first actual Boiler Room so I’m pretty excited for that one, that’s what I would highlight. It’s gonna be great - it’s in Malta

Coming from west Germany to here, do you think that the community you’ve built here has helped to shape & influence your sound?
Yeah, definitely. I would say Berlin takes all the credit for the sound that I play today because I wouldn’t have gotten to know this kind of music if I hadn’t moved to Berlin. Actually, specifically the Mala Junta party and the gang, Ted you know and Yahim and Alora, and all of them. I’ve been at all of those parties from the first one to the last one and that’s had a big impact on what I’ve been playing. 

How has your sound/style developed since you started playing?
I just listened to the first mix I ever recorded today, I dug it out from my computer and I was like, “wow, who would’ve thought” [laughs]. I actually started DJing being a dancehall and reggae selector, back then I would have never guessed that I would be into electronic music at all. When I got into electronic music, I started out with melodic stuff and deep house, tech house stuff. I’ve come a long way. 

Perhaps coming from that aspect, looking that you’ve played dancehall or that spectrum of music,  with those being Black sounds and Black music, do you think that has that played an influence on the music you're playing today? 
Definitely. I really like dub techno, I don't play it, but it's influenced my producing. I haven’t put a lot out yet but I’ve been working on a lot of projects, and I can definitely see the influence that reggae and dancehall music has had on what I am producing.

Bright, bouncy, melancholic, fast and pushy. This is the result of groove techno and trance blended together by the talented ears of Salzbauer. His songs have reached the entire world. With emotionality and catchiness his lyrics and melodies are memorable and recognised, same was the vibe his set has left at our studio. Taking lanes that few would drive through, Salzbauer has guided us into a beautiful trance that feels warm in our hearts.

Our sixth Podcast is provided by Hamburg based DJ, graphic artist and motion designer Sportmann, who had a soft spot for electronic music from an early age. 

He has always been in close contact with musicians, producers and collectives, both in private circles and at work. The foundation stone was laid and with it the interest to DJ himself was not long in coming.

Sportmann sees his vocation in transforming the floor into a gym for a short time, to do sports together. And to run up to peak performances. With a soundscape characterized by numerous harmonic variations, he tries to hypnotize his audience, to cast a spell over them and send them on a musical journey.

With this Podcasts he combines his signature trance Sound with tribal and groove Elements, which makes this Mix a unique journey through his Taste of Music and a perfect addition to our Podcast Series!

Known for their high energy and progressive sound, her performances build bridges between genres while maintaining a seamless flow. With a focus on connecting with the crowd, Maryline K strives to create ecstatic experiences. 
 
She serves as a resident DJ for the Amsterdam underground rave collective Systema and is one half of HYPERLINE, a b2b project alongside Hyper Octane.
