Für die Ausstellung STATES OF REBIRTH hat das PHOXXI den Künstler Manuel Sékou eingeladen, eine Sound Commission als Soundtrack zu entwickeln, der das Betrachten der Arbeiten begleitet. Sékou beschreibt sich selbst als Sammler, Assembler, Betrachter und Prosumer. Sékou bewegt sich in seinen künstlerischen Arbeiten zwischen visueller Praxis, Musik und Self Publishing. Seine Auseinandersetzung basiert auf dem assozitaven Sammeln von Artefakten digitaler Bildkulturen und exzessivem Sampling von Audiofragmenten. Durch Strategien der »Übersetzung« nähert er sich der Komplexität von Realitäten mit Mit- teln von Sound, Bild und Text essayistisch an. Seine Arbeit mit Sound zeichnet sich durch analytische Muster von Brüchen im Kontext popkultureller Dekonstruktion aus.

Unter dem Pseudonym luxxuryproblems veröffentlicht er neben Produktionen auf diversen Labels wie SPA, katharsis, World Canvas, und SM-LL auch Guestshows für Onlineplattfor- men wie NTS, HKCR oder radio.syg.ma.
