We are very excited to present you the new release on our label: Boorane - Thru Jazz to Mars EP!
Although it's the very first EP of the project, these guys can hardly be called newcomers. Boorane members already have the street credibility and style with the strong roots and skills in b-boying and djing, dating back to early 2000s, and can easily teach us a thing or two about the art of digging, beats programming, real swing and texture. With previous releases on King Underground Records, Boora is recognized as the father of Russian boom bap scene, no less.

Together with his good friend and long-time collaborator on all fronts Krane, they came up with this work of beauty and depth.

Soulful hip-hop beats meet heavily swung house, sophisticated techno and a nice slice of timeless electro, all based on obscure Soviet samples & excerpts from long-forgotten scientific movies and documentaries, chopped drum breaks and complex groovy programming - All created with the classic hip-hop set of tools: Akai MPC 3000 and E-Mu SP-1200.

On the metaphorical side of things Boorane is the clear reference to Buran - the legendary Soviet space program and the eponymous space shuttle! Beyond the mere name - the EP is loaded with sounds, related to the space exploration, including the shuttle engine start at the very beginning of this special musical journey, leading us to straight into space with a reassuring hip-hop beat.

Boorane's music has the capacity to work on so many levels. Being down to earth and clearly physical on the one hand, with the heavy grainy beats and gritty textures that are ready to shake the dancefloors, their music has an unmistakable timeless touch, yielding high aspirations and thoughts about space and time.

The vivid example is Find The Way which is a collaboration with the label boss Lay-Far - is a real pacifist manifesto - with its reassuring thoughts about the future of the world - Love has got to find the way and step by step are the phrases effectively repeated as mantras throughout the track, making us believe the prospect is just inevitable!

Being influenced by the wide range of musicians, like Theo Parrish, Atjazz, Miles Davis, James Brown, Pete Rock, Dj Premier and notably Soviet jazz scene i.e. Mustafa Zade, Georgiy Garaniyan or Aleksey Kucenko, Boora and Krane find the way to make their deeply-rooted music instantly catchy and likeable, at the same time bringing something unique and refreshing to the scene. Boorane - Intro Kusok

The title of this EP is pretty self-explanatory. Considering the recent history of one of the EP’s tracks being stolen and released in South Africa under another artist’s name, we thought it’s high time to make this piece of work available digitally!
   Written and produced in late 2012, the main 3 tracks saw the light of the day on a limited vinyl-only release on Amp-Art Recordings (UK) in the spring of 2014. This special digital version comes with an exclusive bonus track “From Head to Toe”, which was produced by Lay-Far in the same time-period in 44/4 Studio, Moscow, but has never made it to any other release.  
   Tracks 1, 2 and 3 used under exclusive license from Amp-Art Recordings (UK). Tracks 1, 2, 3 mastered at Air Mastering. Track 4 mastered by Martin Iveson @ ARCO labs (2016). Original artwork by Maxim Sullivan. 

The original 2013 press-release reads:

“on this EP Lay-Far dish out 3 tracks of low slung, funky and soulful house music, done in that classic Detroit style. "That Voice From Far Away" has great vocal chorus elements, paired with a funky and tight instrumental backing, which has early Andres and KDJ written-all over it. On the flip we start with “Where I’ve Never Been Before (Yet)”, a jacking Harlem funk groove that builds up with layers of chords and intricate percussion combined with the now trademark vocal skits and riffing funk guitar. “You Know I’m Gonna Getcha” concludes this essential 3-tracker; a gorgeous blend of samba rhythms, deep chords and Rhodes keys, all given extra weight by a big bouncy house beat and huge wub'ing bassline introduced halfway through the track! Massive record, already garnishing lots of press, move quick!”

Started in 2010 as a small project, influenced by sound and visual esthetics of 90’s house parties in New York and Chicago, FW soon became the biggest creative community of dancers in Russia, gaining strong local following and international reputation. It is the birthplace and home for leading Russian house dance crews.  

Various Artists EP “Footwork House Jam #1” is a homage to the global house culture and the eponymous Moscow-based club night in particular. The idea behind this compilation is to provide the fuel for house dance culture and house movement to expand further on, blurring the boarders and eliminating the prejudices of the present times. This is a collection of irresistible swinging beats from some of the world’s top house producers: Karizma (USA), Nubian Mindz (UK), Byron The Aquarius (USA), Kid Sublime (Netherlands), Lay-Far (Russia), Intr0beatz (Island), SMBD AKA Simbad (UK). These tracks will make your body jack!
