About J-Zone
Known for his quirky lyrics and trash talk style of rapping, J-Zone released a string of idiosyncratic and critically acclaimed albums in the late 1990s and early 2000s that acquired a cult following. Of these, the 2001 release Pimps Don't Pay Taxes, was particularly noted; it featured rappers Huggy Bear and Al-Shid,for whom he would subsequently produce a number of 12" releases.In 2003, the New York Times cited his J-Zone, S.A. Smash concert in Brooklyn, New York as a noteworthy pop and jazz concert in the New York metropolitan region.

Not finding commercial success, J-Zone eventually walked away from rap, and in 2011 published the book Root for the Villain: Rap, Bullshit and a Celebration of Failure.The book has been well received; the L.A. Times Music Blog stated that "Like his albums, it's equal parts hilarious, self-effacing and sharp. He's the sarcastic older brother putting you up on game. It's a love letter to rap laced with sulfur, the flip side of Dan Charnas' similarly excellent The Big Payback."The Washington Post Going Out Gurus blog called it "a must for every curmudgeonly grown-up hip-hop head",while Nathan Rabin writing for The A.V. Club called it "one of the funniest and most honest books ever written about the modern music industry and its luckless casualties."

This is a pretty major interview so make sure you share this one and get the word out. For anyone in any aspect of the music game pay very close attention to this one. I've already listened to it 7 times and didn't even get half the gems J-Zone spit.

C'était début juillet, il a maintenant presque un mois, la semaine sainte du Worldwide Festival de Gilles Peterson sonnait l'heure du rendez-vous annuel dont il nous est impossible d'en rater une miette. Cette édition 2016 fut une fois de plus un cru exceptionnel. Entre live, DJ sets, ambiance, espaces, rencontres, pas une seule fausse note. Chaque année on s'y prépare et pourtant, chaque année on se reprend une grosse claque musicale. Une symbiose parfaite entre espace, temps et couleurs musicales à laquelle nous avons une fois de plus apporté notre pierre à l'édifice.

Du mardi au vendredi nous avons installé le studio du Mellotron sur la plage de La Ola pour y recevoir producteurs, DJs, amis et nouvelles rencontres. De 11h00 à 14h00 se sont succédés dans le désordre DJ Oil, Nikitch, Around The World, Clémentine, Saint-James, Jim Irie, Majestic Mood, Les Oreilles de P'ears, Frederic Beneix, Le Mellotron DJs, et bien  sûr le papa du festival Gilles Peterson et son acolyte Lefto pour finir la semaine en beauté.

Et du coup, pour ceux et celles qui en auraient raté une miette ou veulent se refaire une piqure de Worldwide Festival, on vous balance ici même les recordings de ces sessions. On tient à s'excuser pour les deux podcasts manquants de Da Vince et Supagroovalistic qui viendront rejouer le match quand bon leur semble au 6 rue beaurepaire.
