We’ve known each other since nursery and have been mixing together for years but we only started jump about a year and a half ago. The original mission statement for jump was for it to be strictly 4x4 only, which we now take a much looser approach to, but there’s a definite emphasis on house or house adjacent genres in our sets. In terms of a typical jump set you’ll probably hear deep house, progressive house, chuggers, tech house, hard house and maybe a sprinkle of garage.

Other than hearing people play out at clubs, bars and parties I listen to a lot of radio. Alto, NARR and Sable are all great independent Leeds based platforms. I'd also recommend tuning into Netil and Noods too.

What sparked your interest in digging/collecting?

My Dad’s a DJ and so I was kinda brought up on dance, soul, funk, reggae, house. I’m heavily influenced by that and my teenage houseparty years where we’d bang out grime and bashment. Now I’ve got a collection of my own which I feel like encompasses a bit of all of that!

How to you find the music the you play?
*
Honestly, I just dig either in record shops (mostly in the quid bins cos that’s where the gems are) or on YouTube and get into a proper deep whole, sometimes I look at the archives of old 80s and 90s mixes too. 

Any label/artist/collective recommendations for someone to start digging?
*
If you’re into the more Detroit side of things I played then I’d look into Kenny Larkin, Los Hermanos, Aril Brikha, Robert Hood and all them legends there. At the minute I’m also obsessed with All My Love / Louie Vega & Robyn (iconic duo?!)

How long have you been collecting and mixing for?

I’ve only been mixing since mid 2020 but I’d say I’ve been collecting since the first time I heard Sister Nancy on my mum’s radio while she was cooking 

What sparked your interest in digging/collecting?
*
Music, dance and the ways they allow self expression are sacred to me. The evocative power of music is something I’ve felt my entire life, from memories of sharing meals with my family to just having a boogie with friends after a long week. 

Where do you find your music?
*
Mostly through internet rabbit holes like YouTube/Soundcloud/Bandcamp. That’s how I discovered some of my favourite labels like Awesome Tapes From Africa, Soundway Records and Nyege Nyege Tapes. There’s also online publications like PanAfrican Music that are really useful for finding music that western audiences mostly ignore

Sampling records with my friend George was my first introduction to digging but going to cosmic slop over the years has been a massive influence on my musical journey !

Sound signature, Jay Daniel, Amp Fiddler, mr g, Omar s, all good people to check & Darryn Jones is an amazing dj who Id love to see play slop!

Theo Parrish is probably my biggest inspiration, both the way he DJs and the music he producers!!! He really is the number one dj in my eyes, you never know what sort of song is coming next you just know it’s gunna be amazing !

Everyone that steps into record shops/fairs n digs, we all have different feels doing this for sure. for me I've found it a overwhelming experience most of the times loads of records, names: so go with some time to spend select a few give them a listen if that's accessible, talk to people nothing like getting into a conversation about music:))Biiig up yourselves xx

My parents were both vinyl djs when they were my age so I grew up around trance and techno. And then I really started to shape my own music tastes over long commutes to high school.

NTS is the spot for mixes/radio shows across the whole musical spectrum. Also worth following distributors of records you like.. low company, rubadub, industrial coast, redeye.

Boss level djs like object blu, mi-el, josey rebelle and John t gast who take risk and genre + bpm hop freely

Noiak kicks things off for Season 2 of In The Window, with our first recordings from Adaptations Festival at the Hello listening lounge above House of Fu in Leeds. 

An attempt at showcasing records of varying styles from bygone eras, that each represent their own unique place within the history of popular music of their respective origins.

How long have you been collecting and mixing for?

I've been collecting records for the last 13 years, and have been mixing since 2017. Always collected purely for listening, then got the opportunity to use two turntables instead of one and haven't looked back since. What a joy! 

Where do you find your music?
*
Usually record stores. I base my digging on the best bargains I can find on any used records and go from there. I find that limitation helps me discover weird and wonderful things, and also aids in maintaining a steady financial pace in an otherwise expensive endeavour.

Any label/artist/collective recommendations for someone to start digging?
*
Just depends on what you're into! The best recommendation I can give for anyone looking to collect disco: maybe avoid any song with the word "dance" in the title.

Is there anyone that you take inspiration from? If so, who and why?
*
My grandpa was a writer and antiques dealer. He specialised in Armenian history, which was close to his heart, and translated his passion for our cultures history into his life and living. I like to draw parallels from that outlook by collecting and sharing music that is close to my heart.

An ongoing theme I've been playing around w/ in recent months. it kinda goes from deep dub techno into elements of minimal deep trippy techno moving towards classic strains of Detroit (deep house) towards the end. I've been playing around w/ these ideas after being inspired by the work of Nick Richards (Nubian Twist) & the tracks he wrote for polytype records compilation under his Thirdspace alias.

ev3ctor - In The Window

Sonic sounds of Arab futurism, in a time where the present Arab world is so bleak. The mix moves between heavy, chuggy, battle like drums, into clippings of instruments used to denote celebrations, overly eclipsed with a saturated lo-fi hum throughout the mix, ending off with a tune by Sisters of Mercy that I’ve had on repeat.
