That last weekend of August 2021 I drove from Amsterdam to Paris to play for Ecstatic Dance Paris. I have known Virginie Brune Fluidity for a while and we had reached out to each other in the past, but a collaboration with Ecstatic Dance Paris never materialised. 
I must have been crazy to embark on this adventure in times of travel restrictions, testing stress and my extremely full planner, but for some reason it felt urgent. Was it instinct or was it pride that made it feel so urgent to me.
I arrived in Paris on Saturday evening. Our host was Dorothée Michaud. We talked about how hard it is now to organise these events of movement and connection. 
Some people say it is frivolous and not a necessity, for me dancing is my life. For many people dancing is so much more than just fun. It is almost like praying, making a deeper and truer connection to yourself. There is a deep tribal and ancestral element to it. When a group of people move together to the same repetitive beat, something special happens, something transformative happens. 
Dorothée and Virginie told me that this could very well be the last ED in Paris in this form and shape, because in France from 1 September you will need something similar to the vaccination passport to participate in anything. 
The dancers were ready. From the first note of my set, they went in, fully. Following my flow as I was building. Then I was speeding up, with vocals only and when I dropped that first beat, the whole room screamed, flooding me with all the emotions that were held inside. I cried. I mourn for the loss of freedom and free choice. I mourn for the deceased and sick people. I mourn for the chaos and suffering and I mourn for the loss of dancing.
 I mourn and I celebrate. 
I celebrate this epic moment when collective pain is expressed and danced with, so it will not eat away at the inside as much. 
I celebrate dance and connection, something that for me, is as important as any basic need.
The dancers did not hold back, fully engaging and going with everything that I offered them: Trance, house, metal, medicine music, jazz. 
Every transition, every change in direction or intensity was followed, like rollercoaster cars follow the track. They took it like it was their last dance.
Dancing deep and intensely. Faces and bodies full of all possible emotions. Children dancing and flying through the air. A 98 year old woman dancing on her feet and in a chair. 
This might have been the most intense and most emotional dance I ever played for. 
Whether it was a deeper calling or my lust for crazy adventures that got me there, I am glad that I was there.

Tonantzin represents the Great Mother goddess, or Mother Earth coming from the Aztec language of Nahuatl. She has numerous names and faces across the many First Nations of the world. Weaving her primordial song with the aboriginal didgeridoo, the song anchors the energy of the drum while lifting the Spirit of the dancer to help us remember we are Earth.
