A year and a half after @Black-Merlin (George Thompson) opened the Common Thread series with the much praised New World Fantasy / Ice House release George sent over some adventurous bits for a follow up and we were immediately sold. George is a true artist in his own right. All of the Black Merlin tracks evoke different sentiments. This time around the feeling it bring up is very conflicted. Both tracks have those dark aesthetics with elements of paranoia and both also share some apocalyptic elements. 
It is for this reason that this is the perfect follow up for CT01. 

Instead of just releasing music on vinyl we (with the blessings of Zoroaster) are looking to evoke spirits, cross boundaries and maintain quality. Major cliche's, but with an artist like Black Merlin on your books, Cliche's sometimes become truth. 

COMMONTHREAD04 - Black Merlin - Burn It / Experiments In The Dark will be available on Limited heavyweight vinyl from Late May/June 2015.

Freaks follow up their release, Right Now featuring Robert Owens " with another exciting single on Rebirth. This time Luke Solomon and Justin Harris team up with Diz aka 012 to reinterpret the Womack & Womack classic ! In the words of Freaks, "We first started recording this record around 6 years ago. Originally to a live drum track. The track started off as a straight cover, then eventually was stripped down and remixed effectively. Diz used to stay with us quite a bit in London and around the time that we first recorded the vocals we had been listening to a lot of Funkadelic, The Style Council and this. Diz started singing it in the car and we just decided to record it for fun. It just seemed to work so well, probably because Diz really understood the soul of the track and captured it in the delivery of his vocals. We then added some backing vox and stripped that back and ended up with this version...The album, 'Conscience', that we took it from, is one of our all time faves " The one and only Henrik Schwarz also serves up a strong remix and dub with his trademark warm sound, piano, synth and acid bassline ! Magic and epic at the same time... From Germany Johnny D reworks the song with his special groove and vibe ! Already tried and tested by Gilles Peterson in the last month....... this is a another monster tune from the Freaks stable.

After releasing the ‘High Life' remixes just before summer and their more electronic EP on Aus Music, it’s time to get label heads Detroit Swindle back on Heist. They come in with full force, delivering a set of Swindle styled house tracks, accompanied by a jazzy remix by Volcov in his Isoul8 moniker with guest appearances by Kaidi Tatham on keys and Nigel Bennett on vocals.

The EP kicks off with ‘The life behind things’; a life affirming soulful house tune that’s cleverly built around a set of switching organ stabs. The energy in this track keeps on building with the filter slowly opening up while live percussion oozes its way through the track (courtesy of Mauskovic Dance Band member Chris Bruining). After a well working surprise acid break, the track breaks down into a jazzy organ solo by Byron the Aquarius, building up momentum till the full track comes back in for a ecstatic delivery of feel-good dancefloor emotions.
