Hi, my name is Thomas. I am Richie Hawtins assistant. Besides my love for electronic music, i have another passion which i would like to share with you through my podcast - playing the piano. Ryuichi Sakamoto - Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence (live):
Being also a member of "YMO", the japanese version of "Kraftwerk", Sakamoto is probably working on more music projects than Richie Hawtin! ;) originally i wanted to use one of his tracks with Carsten Nicolai aka "Alva Noto", but then i chose this piece because of its fitting title for a december podcast… Merry Xmas!

Franz Schubert - Intermezzo Op. 118 No. 2 (Helene Grimaud): 
Schuberts works might not be as popular as Mozarts or Beethovens, but you will find a lot of wonderful music if you dig deeper. Take this "Intermezzo" interpretated by Helene Grimaud and you have a dream team.

Ludovico Einaudi - Two Brothers: 
Some people say Eindaudis music is too obvious. But for me, it always does the trick. And his latest album, the first classical record which sold more digital downloads than physhical copies, proves him right.

Aphex Twin - Avril 14th: 
As an artist known especially for his experimental electronic music ("Window Licker"!), Richard D. James surprised me with 13 amazing piano tracks on his last album "Druqks" which he recorded with a midi controlled Yamaha Disklavier. Is there any kind of music this guy can not produce?! 

Chilly Gonzales - White Keys: 
Entertainer. Genius. Maniac. cCll him what you want, he is and stays one of the most talented musicians of our time. And his piano solo albums always travel with me on my iPod.

Frederic Chopin - Ballade No. 1 in G Minor, Op. 23: 
Chopin died young and could not write a lot of music. But all his works still belong to the standard repertoire of every concert pianist over the world. Can you name another artist that did the same? My favorite composer - period.

Jello - Neph (Autechre Ultramatique 6 Mix): 
I had to look on the label twice when i found it in a record store: Autechre, the masterminds of experimental electronic music, deliver a beautiful piano solo remix of Jellos "Neph"! (sorry for the bad sound quality, i had to record this track from my old vinyl.)

Nils Frahm- Hammers (live): 
Boy, is Nils talented! the 30-year old composers combination of a piano with modern electronic sounds is simply incredible! if i had to choose the music for the end of the world, this one would be my last track...

Erik Satie - Gnossienne no. 3: 
I discovered Satie through a tv commercial in the mid 90s and i immediately fell in love with his melancholic, repetitive music. I also believe that he has a big influence on many minimal music producers of today.

Soap and Skin - Turbine Womb: 
A friend of mine told me about Anja a few years ago. Her songwriting and live shows are amazing, but be careful - the music can put you in a really dark mood.

Claude Debussy - Clair de Lune: 
With "Clair de Lune", Debussy wrote one of the most famous pieces in the piano literature. But also his other works like the "Arabesques", the "Reverie" or the "Suite Bergamasque" are outstanding on their own.

Hideyuki Hashimoto - Ayumi: 
As the second japanese artist on my podcast, Hashimoto writes a more laid back, jazzy soundtrack which is just perfect for quiet sundays on the couch.

Keith Jarrett - Part 2 C (live): 
This piece is taken from his famous "Köln Concert" album, recorded in 1975. With one of the best selling piano albums until today, Jarrett introduced jazz to a wider audience with his fully (!) improvised play.

Jon Hopkins - Abandon Window: 
Jons album "Immunity" has all the elements of modern electronic music: experimental, varied, danceable and all incredibly well produced. Here, a simple piano melody combined with a synth and a lot of reverb gives you an idea of how it must sound in space…

Francesco Tristano - Strings of Life: 
Classic meets electronic music pt.2 - the young and upcoming pianist Tristano covers "Rhythm is Rhythms" techno anthem "Strings of Life" and adds subtle effects to the prominent piano riff. Make your transition!

JS Bach - Goldberg Variations, Aria (Glenn Gould): 
I chose this piece because of 2 reasons: Bach and Gould. Both being geniuses on their own, Gould changed the way of interpretation with his "Goldberg Variations" like no one else before and after him. 

Max Richter - Written in the Sky:
Taken from his second album, which Pitchfork described as "one of the most affecting and universal contemporary classical records in recent memory." In 2012, Richter recomposed Vivaldis "The Four Seasons", using live recorded material and cutting edge digital postproduction and editing methods. Highly recommended.

Philip Glass - Opening: 
Glass is considered one of the most influential composers of the late 20th century. His works go far beyond the instrument of the piano, and they are worth to be discovered by every fan of minimal music. :)

Nova Nova - Tones:  
I heard this song for the first time in ibiza around 1993, but i only found it years later on a "Cafe Del Mar" compilation. Since then it reminds me of this amazing summer…

Korbu

Analog mountains mixing with minotaurs and wolfs, walking towards an marble castle.
"One day Prometheus was trying to solve a quarrel that was raging between the gods and the men. At a festival the men were going to sacrifice a bull for the first time. They asked him which parts of the bull should be offered to the gods and which should be eaten by men. Prometheus decided to play a trick on Zeus. He killed the bull, skinned it and butchered it. He split it into two portions, in one he put the best, lean meat. In the second he put bones followed by a thick layer of fat. Prometheus offered both to Zeus to take his choice. Zeus looked at both portions, one looked good but was rather on the small side, the other was much larger and covered in a layer of fat which Zeus felt must cover the best, tastiest portion of meat. He chose that one. When Zeus realised that he had been tricked he was furious. He took fire away from man so that they could never cook their meat or feel warm again."
