“Cringe Wold” is a collection of indek tunes edited from recordings captured during live performances between 2015 and 2017. The original project files were lost, leaving these recently unearthed recordings as the only remaining artifacts. “Cringe” is raw and primal, all elemental essence and primordial beats in contrast to the meticulously refined and fractured breakcore mutations of this year’s acclaimed “Yope” EP (indek.bandcamp.com/album/yope).

Throughout “Cringe,” abstract rhythms and patterns pulse in psychedelic swirls, crude oil in parking lot puddles rippling from a Jurassic rave somewhere outside of spacetime. Vocal samples filter and stretch through layers of cellular synthetics, broken drum hits beat staccato while ominous pads lurk in the shadows hinting at unheard revelations. “Cringe” prefaces the brokecore braindance of “Yope” with a full-length selection of genre-transcending electronic “dance” musics. The imagery and titles evoke an uncanny valley, where technology and biology fuse and fizz as phonons fracture and mend in unfolding fractals across 56 minutes of sound.

Presented as a limited edition of 79 cassette tapes — metallic silver ink on pink shells with 4-panel fold-out j-cards.

Introducing Elfin-04, Hideaway Studio's Compact New 4-Voice Polysynth...
 
I have been working round the clock for weeks now on my dinky little 8-bit 4-Voice (4 x [2osc+1sub+LFO]) VA Poly Expander with 1960's style transformer-mixed output voicing and finally No's.000 thru 010 are born to the world and receiving very positive feedback from their new owners...... this 4-voice polysynth measuring just 16x12x3cm has full real-time control over her 32 parameters via simple midi ccs and 16 built-in patches. 

Based on an expanded form of a customized software synth-core design by ISGK in Japan, I think the Elfin-04's unique voice ouput/mixing transformers do add something for sure - they are driven full-swing with 60KHz PWM resulting in a lot of additional harmonics/mirror frequencies and some saturation that all gets trapped within the transformers which adds a richness/darkness to the sound (no-doubt inspired in part by my beloved DK Synergy). In the Elfin-04, the 4 voices are passively mixed but, unusually, by the topology of the output-transformers themselves which is a trick that used to be found in some more exotic 1960s valve test equipment where multiple signal outputs were mixed on isolated outputs (eg. my huge old Panoramic TTG-2 tube Dual Sinewave Generator). Also, each voice CPU is independently clocked so everything is genuinely free-wheeling across the voices so even the noise phases slowly when played on multiple notes and unison which is pretty cool.

A dexterous hour-plus collage shifting thru noise, footwork, jungle, neurohop, industrial & hard-tek, Baile-tinged gabber, wavering between bare-all abrasion & skittish provocation. The mix is a continuation of a 2025 peppered with radio spots between Bristol & London and their through-running atmosphere of scattered elation & lurking dolour.

Realist Alive Radio 001: tskali

Copenhagen’s Jim Kimchi arrives next on the Realist Radio conveyor of phenoms in iconoclastic electronics.

Co-founder of the glitch.cool collective, Jim’s output approaches the uncategorisable, demolishing and reappropriating a lineage of IDM, glitch, neo-classical and ambient music. Behind some of the most mind-bending remixes in recent memory (Neon Priest, SABIWA, amaranth_todd) and a string of key 2022 EPs, Jim’s firmly been a Realist obsession for a minute now. With recent movements toward free jazz, post-club and noise distinguishing Jim’s upcoming work from prior releases, his mix stages an artist in an evolutionary period, glowing with the sense of imminence and essentiality.

The mix, comprised almost entirely of Jim’s unreleased tunes, exemplifies an artist in full control of a style of electronic experimentalism defying definition. Seeming to deconstruct a variety of club music, from jungle to DnB and Miami Bass, alongside flights into noise, sound-collage and the classical, it evokes both ecstasy and incomprehensibility. On first listen, I found myself at various times simply head-in-hands, muttering nonsensically. That picture, of a music inducing inarticulable awe, is the only real figure that encapsulates the quality of Jim’s work.
