"A loooong story short: July 2010 I had written an untitled jazz tune with a guaguanco rhythm as the foundation. A month later, someone very dear to me, my aunt, the second mother to my brother and me, passed away from heart disease at the young age of 49. I later recalled Gil Scott-Heron speaking about guaguanco being the 'rhythm of rebirth and regeneration' on a live DC recording of "The Bottle" and after making the connection, I knew immediately what to call my song." - Drew Kid

Born Andrew Phillip Flores, the older son of two Filipino immigrants, Drew Kid began piano study at six years of age. After discovering the music of Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder in middle school, he began to take piano more seriously. Drew found himself immersed in a new world of music, later finding the jazz ensemble at his high school to be the highlight of his week. Some 4+ years after entering college, Drew obtained a performance degree and the rest is still unfolding.

Drew is currently a member of the Capital Focus Jazz Band, Thad Wilson Jazz Orchestra, Joe Brotherton Quintet, and Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra.

Drew has had the privilege of sharing the stage with Butch Warren, Dick Hyman, Wycliffe Gordon, Tom Williams, Kris Funn, and Academy Award-winning actor Kevin Spacey. He has recorded on albums by DTMD, Drew Dave, Dunc, yU, The 1978ers, ACME, Aaron 'Ab' Abernathy, Carusoe, the Capital Focus Jazz Band, and the Thad Wilson Jazz Orchestra. He continues to write, arrange, and produce original music and is steadily at work on a new solo album due mid-2016.

"Diko's Groove is a theme I wrote for my multi-instrumentalist younger brother, Cody (aka Diko). Despite our individual styles, one genre of music we always see eye-to-eye on is funk. We were brought up in a household of The Beatles and Frank Sinatra but the world of funk, or fOnk, rather, is something we discovered together. (It can't be fOnk without the 'O'.) You can probably figure out whose music we've jammed on the most by listening to this song. I always tell folks, I usually can't fully realize the groove ideas I hear in my head until I've ran it by Cody. Without him around to jam with on drums, bass, or guitar, sometimes my writing gets limited. A lot of what is heard on this album was made possible by his artistry and I love him very dearly for always being willing to collaborate. Cody is also probably the most hilarious person in my world and I owe my sanity to him. Hahaha..." - Drew Kid
