Manchester's Indigo Jung returns to Sprechen, the leftfield house/disco/Balearic label headed up by Paper A&R Chris Massey. 'Mean World' takes a proper 60s/70s soul diva vocal and places it atop a backdrop that marries fluttery disco geetars and Balearic-style atmospherics to a bassline that's hefty and resonant to the point of being almost junglistic in feel, the end result being a surging, looping cut that'll keep bodies moving nicely. The accompanying 'Aldi' is a more traditional-style, string-drenched disco-houser that could have come out at any point in the past 25 years, but still packs plenty of dancefloor punch with its intricate slap bassline, chopped string stabs and layers of white noise.

•• A classic by Chairman of the Board. Northern Soul is one of the most beautiful eras of UK musical history. While the UK south was indulging themselves in the psychedelic sounds of the Beatles and the Stones. The Northern Industrial cities were set on the heavier euphoric pace of developing US soul music from Detroit. The songs of NS live on in the memories of many and the modern dance floor club looks more and more like those of the washed up dancehalls of the UK north. Don't forget these parties were some of the first ever DJing and non-partner/same gender dances. ••

•• This ID Jung edit of a Northern Soul number that will live forever. The stems of this recording are surely lost on corroded tape decks somewhere in Detroit but luckily modern AI has graced us with the tech to separate the instruments. The break is extended and the arrangement is slightly more progressive.

@IndigoJung is a Turkish/UK producer/DJ from Newcastle working for Sprechen Records in Manchester. He runs the night Discopia, a subversive dystopian disco/techno night for Big Bro events. 

He likes experimenting with the listeners psyche, and went on to say that his music selections have a lot of tribal electronic, percussive vapourwave and grungy basslines followed by a full dive into mangled funk house along with voices that are only in your head. He enjoys speeding up to hard tech and slowing down to dub so he can see a good range of dance moves.

Indigo Jung is a DJ/producer for Sprechen Music in Manchester. 
Him and friends run the Animus Family- a club night and collective of singers, MCs, DJs, producers and audio engineers. 

This mix for Vandelay radio has a selection of vinyl rips, unreleased Sprechen music, studio-shared music and many tunes collected from the deepest crates of internet producers.

With an intro by Salah from the Animus Family the genre is a mix of psychedelic sampled beats and electronic dance music from 90s to present as well as few tracks from the ID Jung -Mean World EP which is out with Sprechen Music in May 2020.

Indigo Jung’s debut on Sprechen consist of two house bombs that effortlessly straddle sounds of afro, disco, dubby & jacking vibes and would fit right at home in sets by the likes of Gilles Peterson.

One of the best things about running a label is being able to source out/stumble upon some amazing emerging talent and Sprechen think they’ve unearthed a producer with some serious potential.

Title track “Mean World” is a serious bit of brilliance with a snappy chopped up vocal sample surfing on top of a sub woofer testing dub style bass line whilst percussion snaps off at central points…flipping mega!

In contrast, “Aldi” is a straight shooting, sure fire dance floor disco bomb. It arrives, does the business in mega fashion, blows the roof off and showers energy all over…all in under five minutes too…serious tackle!

It takes me back in time to stuff that I used to play when I was first getting into dance music properly with its style and sound!

Reference points of French Touch, Filter Disco and acts like Armand Van Helden and Daft Punk come to mind but sounds really fresh and original! I look forward to hearing some more of Indigo’s stuff!
