Indigo Soul’s inaugural release sees 21 year-old Josh Humphris step into the limelight with Moses Jam/Infinity Loop, an understated yet deeply textured release reminiscent of early Flying Lotus or Floating Points productions. 

Within this intricate 8-minute offering, Humphris lays bare his current state of mind, drawing inspiration from a diverse range of influences (Bibio to Ju-Par Universal Orchestra, Morgan Geist to Gonjasufi,) coastal life in Brighton and his current obsession with the Fender Rhodes.

In Poppy’s words, ‘I wrote the song for David Turay, a good friend and an amazing saxophonist [who’s virtuosic playing is sampled in the song]. David passed away in late November last year. The song is for him, for me and for anyone who has lost someone close to them. Writing it was the only way I could make sense of what I was feeling. Mostly I wish he could have known how much we cared about him, and I feel like I’m telling him every time I sing his song.’

Indigo Soul’s forthcoming release sees Adam Halogen step into the limelight with a beautiful debut, ‘Length and Brecht.’ The London based producer was raised on the radio static bursts heard in between FM stations, and takes influence from the R’n’B scene and the movie soundtracks of Alain Goraguer. His music blends slow burning electronica with melancholic ambiences constructed from found sounds and broken instruments. The B-side sees Synkro (R&S/Apollo Records) on the remix.

Indigo Soul’s IS007 sees 20-year-old Alysha step in to the limelight with her debut EP release, ‘Down/Bruises.’ 

Influenced by the likes of Sufjan Stevens, James Blake & Mica Levi, Alysha recently discovered the harmonium and 'became entranced with its textured and haunting sound.' This discovery turned out to be a significant breakthrough - she felt like she had finally found the right instrument to fuse together the contrasting elements of her sound world - the dark and the dreamlike, the raw and the ethereal.  

In Alysha’s words, ‘Down is about giving your time to someone you know doesn’t really care about you and losing sight of yourself and your self-worth in the process…resenting them for it but ultimately realising it’s on you. Bruises is about my stepdad. He passed away last September. For myself and my older brother (who produces my tracks), ‘Bruises’ became a translation of our grief: a way to process what had happened.'

Indigo Soul welcome back 20-year-old Only Emily with her second EP release, EP2, consisting of ‘You’ and ‘Amethysts.’ 

There’s not much to do in Saltdean, a sleepy coastal village just a stones throw from Brighton (UK). Armed with a sampler, a microphone, various instruments and her father’s record collection, 20 year old Emily Renshaw a.k.a Only Emily combats small town boredom by making music. She is influenced by the likes of Mndsgn, Frank Zappa and Ryuichi Sakamoto.

February 2019 sees the release of more music from Catching Flies, this time in the form of a unique collaboration with legendary UK Grime MC Trim. Trim has worked with the likes of James Blake (and released his ‘fascinating’ (Pitchfork) debut album on 1-800 Dinosaur), Mark Pritchard, Mumdance and Skream, and has won much praise and a cult following for his intricate lyricism. ‘The Light’ is highly textured, deeply melodic and effortlessly marries live instrumentation (guitars, harps, a string quartet) with warm electronics… providing a fitting backdrop to what may be Trim’s most vulnerable and soul-bearing verses to date. The release is accompanied by a music video, directed by Greg Barnes, who has recently directed videos for the likes of Henry Wu/Kamaal Williams and Poppy Ajudha.
