The song is a nod to the African soil, true to its roots, stomping beats and a feel good tone that feels like you're closer to home. The urgency of ease and a strong desire to tell a story with the song and the arrangement itself is beautiful and blends the vocals with smoothness making the song to have that needed power to move you into the groove. With this song on play, you can't help but picture a good time! 

It was in 2016 in Pretoria when I (Selomi) met Methuselah Mpofu through a friend by the name of Max De Ville. We were living in a Bedroom Studio and the situation was very challenging for us all. So as methuselah played around with the guitar, came an idea that we need GOD and started singing in Shona language which I didn't understand but fell in love with the lyrics and how he sang. After recording the song things started looking up and we have seen change in our lives. When I went back home I listened to the song  and came to a decision of giving the song a vintage sound because for me I felt like the song existed before and finally named the song MY GOD.

The original idea of "Keep your Promises" was to create an Afrohouse type track with an emotional vibe. So rhythm and sentiment in one. We began by spontaneously adding guitar voicings with deep harmonies. After getting a general song structure we added bass and sent the track to Tiffany in SA.  She added a theme and some effects which blended beautifully. I´m a big fan of old blues guys, for example, Sonny Terry, so I thought of doing a call-and-answer scheme between vocals and harmonicas would be really special for a house track. The last touch to get the song moving was recording a topline of shakers and stick with Matthias Philipzen.

Individualist is an Afro-acoustic, deep house production duo based in Halle (Saale), Germany. Comprising Wayne de Villiers from South Africa and Rob Collomb from Canada, the duo met by chance in front of the latter’s studio and decided to make electronic music together, before evolving into a proper live group and production duo. Their music is characterised by colourful, swinging house beats with deep roaring basses, earthy acoustic instruments and glitchy sonic landscapes - a culmination of Wayne’s deep roots in South African house music and Rob’s background in music studies and passion for raw analogue sounds. The beats and bass are created on an analog synth, while the guitars, keys, harmonica and vocals are recorded live, resulting in raw and honest house music with a decidedly indie aesthetic and a sound that is uniquely their own. Prolific producers, the duo have released dozens of tracks on various labels in Germany, Switzerland and the USA, including collaborations with the likes of FKA Mash and Tahir Jones.
