i've been meaning to spend some time listening to strictly seven and ten inch records for a while now. this is documentation of the first such occasion.  in no way do i ignore these formats -- i definitely accumulate way less of them than twelve inch singles or albums.
the atmosphere is very mixed within this selection of small discs. things set off on the ultra down low, under the florida summer sun, with a gwen mccrae scorcher from 1974 tailed by rhythm & sound's swelteringly minimal dubbed out masterpiece 'no partial'. before the dance floor is set with a justus jöhncke 45 that highlights his completely unique vision i made some room for a classic gsh melodrama.
burn hard with chic and me. step into the dizco with dave maze and spike rebel.
kick back or step to the fyre krew's 2013 release while it bleeds into a more recent igaxx cut titled 'into the fog' which absolutely offers entry to such a state. a veneration of sound, movement, and smoke. out of the thick atmosphere rises an arrangement of bell towers making way for the first of two scott grooves 001 series appearances.
zopelar and mike huckaby, two artists that seem to always follow my recent listen stacks, keep the energy throbbing. marc davis, an editor who i have followed closer than about any other, rips through the freqs with ves 120 and their killer cut up of an egyptian oddity. slide guitars, chimes, and resonant pan flute sounds offer some respite off admin's most recent self released 45 before scott grooves comes back around with more 001, 'sounding like copper melting slowly. and not fitting that squarely in any one genre.' in his own words.
after a quick stop in lisbon with dj ninOo we're back to egypt with dijit remixed by tapes warming the L110 cones for a 1981 nyc classic by denroy morgan that features a sax solo unlike its twelve inch counterpart. correct me if i'm wrong.
to round out this excursion through media pertainment i have been neglecting for too long, i will leave you with a trio of seven inches brought to us by kyle hall, tone b nimble, and drames rurals. from kmfh's early, warbling, crunched-out lofi into a unique cutup of a mysterious stevie wonder interpretation and finally closing with some healthy chants and squelching.
