Sounds From NoWhere welcomes aboard the Berlin-based duo OPERANT (Instruments of Discipline).

The Berlin-based live duo and production unit, OPERANT, have progressively carved out their own space in the scene with boundary-defying electronic explorations, fuelled with tension and obscurity. 
 Characterised by unrestrained experimentation, the project brutally morphs itself as it pleases, both in performance and in the studio.

Sounds From NoWhere Podcast #067 - OPERANT

Diasiva provide us with #007 in our podcast series, an all Diasiva playlist that includes tracks spanning their 7 year discography + a collection of unreleased material.

Produced in a symbiosis of perfectly unaligned and uncalibrated modular synthesis, “Thirst” is Diasiva pushing current DSP technology to its edges, their sound is informed by a weekly meeting of sonic experimentation and exploration in their Neukölln studio, drawing inspiration from the detritus of West Berlin. “Thirst” represents the ongoing evolution of Diasiva from sledge-hammer logic into expression in motion, welding IDM & deconstructed breaks to pure sonic abstraction, embracing visions of a brighter future yet leading curious eyes toward the ever present darkness, holding the hand of the likeminded, marching together toward the abyss.

Diasiva are Monolog and Swarm Intelligence, formed in 2011 for the first edition of Burn The Machine Festival in Subland, Berlin, playing numerous live sets around Berlin after this, including the following Burn the Machine. In 2016, they released their debut LP “Doublefade” on the seminal Ohm Resistance label, later that year, they released “Sabo” on Monolog & Subtrakt imprint, 2017 saw their Station 1805 EP released on Acroplane. The duo now returns for their debut EP on Instruments of Discipline.

Mateo Hurtado makes his debut on Subsist Records with The Tyranny Of Light, an album in which the Swiss producer mixes dark and spatial sounds with different rhythmic structures.

Mateo Hurtado is a composer who develops his works from modular Synth obtaining a wrap-around finish. As a result of a melodic complexity, this release maintains an introductory beginning with slow and marked rhythms. An evolution that gradually increases the tension without leaving behind the initial modular enveloping melodies.

For the 30th instalment in our mix series it's a special one - Sam (aka van:lla) came through to some of the first parties we put on in the midlands back in 2016. Since then he's honed his musical tastes and mixing skills and when he approached us with this recording, we couldn't say no.

With a love of kick drums and rhythmic elements, van:lla’s mixes are often dominated by a heavy, percussive style. Keep an eye out for 2000’s style rollers, Greek stompers and a few surprises along the way.

Digital Vault is Barcelona-based Techno and
industrial noise DJ. After two decades of supporting the electronic music scene in Barcelona, Digital Vault as a DJ, likes to explore various industrial rhythms and eclectic influences, all in line with his musical taste. Techno, Industrial noise and EBM are his favorite music styles, somewhere between gray and industrial sounds and broken voices. He has shared line-ups with artists like Unhuman, REKA, Headless Horseman, Codex Empire, Parallx, German Aair and NVA, and played in clubs like The Garage of the Bass Valley, LAUT, Macarena and M7 in Barcelona or Lanna Club in Asturias, Spain. He has currently started an event promotion project called Dominant, in Barcelona. The musical spectrum will range from techno, industrial, EBM and post punk to all kinds of dark sounds. Dominant invites Techno, Industrial and experimental artists to play as well as Dj’s from the local scene.

2020 is proving to be a disastrous year for many established artists and quite propitious for new projects, as many have emerged strongly during these strange months. The Lost Boys is one of them, although the person who embodies this pseudonym is known for his years of activity and his great contributions to the hardest and most corrosive electronic scene.

Raszia has recently appeared under this alias on labels such as HC Records, Bass Agenda or Subsist Records. All his contributions have been quite discreet until now, as he is coming back again to Subsist but, this time with a great solo album.

Jumping On A Bit is a work with which the author demonstrates his great artistic heritage and his ample style for producing almost any musical genre and which at the same time has its own sound. The album is difficult to catalogue with just one word, diversity reigns but it still transports you to the clandestine nature of raves.
