Prophetic Improv

My intent in this project was to create a piece that was electronic with an organic feeling.  I chose instrumentation that was orchestral then tried to treat each one in a less-traditional manner.  Panning, delay, tremolo, ring-modulation, and LFO randomization is applied in varying degrees to create what is, hopefully, an interesting texture.  In addition, all the notes of the chord (G minor #7 b11) are only heard simultaneously in a couple of places (intro and 2/3 thru the piece).

My goal in this was to pull harmony + an easily identifiable, almost head-nodding, beat from an ambient and somewhat tempoless beginning.  I chose source instruments built from sampling Buchla synthesizers so they would have an "otherworldly" quality to them (or at least not "off the shelf" synth sounds).  Lastly, as is the case with most ambient music, I wanted to keep the instrumentation minimal, but full.  There is a little peppering of filter manipulation and some volume automation, but otherwise it was a live manipulation and sequencing.

A member of ASCAP, he has composed for independent film and his music has been featured on PBS's History Detectives, MTV's True Life, A & E's Biography, and satellite radio all over the world. As a bassist he has performed with Wind-Up Records artist, Evanescence; Austin, TX indie rockers Ivison; and currently performs with Speak Music Media artist, Death Comesto Matteson.

He plays bass, guitar, keys, cello, and sings and holds a Bachelor's of Music Composition from Middle Tennessee State University.
