In the mood of grim Wednesday evening, you enter a cozy bar in Manchester and out of nowhere you hear: ‘I’m vibin’ as fuck, this is the tru Indian music, no Bollywood shit!’ - what are you gonna do? This was basically the start of my story with Kaali Duniya, the moniker of well-known MC and producer Bamboy. We heard him alongside Boxout FM in many Boiler Room sets, which gained huge attention based on connecting our favourite UK sound with Indigenous music from their home, Mumbai. And yes, later that night curated by the amazing Ramona Radio collective, Tushar Adhav showed his crazy skills on the mic, making all 140 enjoyers from Manch go totally “OI OI OI, PULL UP PULL UP PULL UP!!’, rewinding that thing every second track. But what caught my ear the most was the mentioned opening experimental bass music set of Kaali Duniya - I knew I had to bring this sound back to Brno, we linked up and soon I saw that Tushar’s understanding of music is the very same as mine. No bullshit, no cheezy marketing, no calculation for the trends - music as a tool for people meeting up in a warm community, music as a tool for societal change against all oppression. In his own words: ‘Kaali Duniya’s productions are heavily influenced by soundsystem culture, characterized by dark soundscapes, psychotic atmospheres, and basslines that can only be described as brain-massaging. In a country where caste remains a significant and often divisive issue, Kaali Duniya’s music serves as a catalyst for conversation and change. He uses samples that are deeply rooted in Indian culture, bringing to life stories and experiences that highlight the struggles faced by marginalized communities.
