CHANGING HANDS

The ﬁrst tract, “À la Mode”, is à la Blakey – sets the tone with drive and swing from rhythm section Darek Oles bs, Billy Childs Pn and Clayton Cameron dr with a fantastic horn section of Bob Sheppard tn sx, Gilbert Castellanos tpt, and Ryan Porter trombone,  followed by an up tempo Cameron original called “Art Full”, with Trevor Ware on bass featuring ﬂuid solos from Tivon Pennicott tn and John Beasley pn, and Clayton "the Brush Master" Cameron cleaning up with a masterful brush solo. A downright funky “What Do You Say Dr. J” leads into "Autumn Leaves", a Cameron/DePinna arrangement.   Cameronʼs “The End of Our Winter” showcases Bob Sheppard and Billy Childs in a somber tribute to Blakey while “So Tired” makes you feel like anything but.  “We For Blakey”, featuring bassist Trevor Ware, swings so hard you just want to sing and dance, and singing the praises of Art Blakeyʼsʻ Bopitude is the title track “Here’s to the Messengers”. “ETA” for Clayton Cameron & The Jass eXplosion is now.  This Bobby Watson piece soars with solos from Childs, Gilbert Castellanos, Sheppard, Darek Oles and Cameron. Now is the time to kick back and enjoy Clayton Cameron at his best.
