Destination USA! For the latest expedition in our 1 More Mix series, we head all the way to Philadelphia for this almighty D&B session from Des McMahon.

A man of many shades and styles over the years; in many ways his musical journey reflects the development of bass culture in the US from moombahton to dubstep to drum & bass. 

In the past he’s managed Reid Speed’s evergreen Play Me Records and taught at the renowned Icon Collective production school but more recently he’s been focusing on his own craft and specialising in drum & bass.

An early protagonist in the current wave of North American D&B – a territory where the genre is reaching exciting new peaks not witnessed in at least two decades – Des played his last multi-genre set while supporting Skrillex in the mid 2010s. 

Focussing fully on D&B, despite industry peers telling him he was making a mistake, he’s now a frontrunner in the new generation of headliners in America alongside the likes of Justin Hawkes, Reaper, AIRGLO and Skellytn, who he actually use to teach.

In light of his new release on his own label Des McMahon Music – Epitaph / Hard Truth – we caught up with Des to chat about his career so far, the rise of D&B in America and the importance of DIY culture. A metal head at heart, @djnickyb-uk finds her calm in heavy drums, snares & low frequencies. Professional dancer turned DJ - music and performance has been a significant part of Nicky B’s life for many years. Inspired by artists such as Euphonique, Mrs Magoo and Hybrid, she took up the art of DJing in 2018 alongside DJ-MD, performing as part of a duo ‘Reason2B’, and eventually forging her own solo career as Nicky B.

Nicky B has since appeared on well known radio stations such as Life FM, UK Raw, Code Red and performed at the Boiler Room festival, Paradise Gardens and WillFest Crystal Palace amongst many other events and festivals throughout the UK. Her high energy and raw jungle sound has led to her working with some of the most respected brands in the scene, including EQ50, who Nicky debuted for in their mix series in September 2022.

The future brings some of Nicky’s biggest event bookings to date, and honing her production skills, working on her first solo EP - infusing her love for raw jungle, heavy breaks and low frequencies.

What an honour to play the music made by these artists to the hardcore few remaining at the Rave Party at 5AM on NYE 2024.

This mix starts with Neekeetone's productions. I love his vibe to set the stage for pure junglist badboy things to follow.  

This mix closes with one of my own productions. This is the first time I've felt proud enough of something I've made myself to showcase alongside the rest of this magical dance floor fire.

Infectious (Justin Hepburn) grew up on the Bruce Peninsula ,in Ontario, Canada . influenced by the DnB scene coming out of Toronto he took to the vinyl with a passion for good beats, instantly realizing that making music and playing a crowd were to be taken seriously if he were to make his place in the jungle scene.

After moving to the west coast in his early 20's, Justin decided to make Whistler his new home base where he teamed up with some friends to form The Wild Bunch Sound Crew, a group consisting of 6Djs & 2 Mcs. "The Bunch" quickly became the stepping stone to his career, connecting him with other industry professionals and opening the doors to new nights, different clubs, and BC's amazing outdoor festival scene.

During his time in Whistler, Infectious has been on the rise, spinning regularly with the Whistler Junglists at Tommy Africas, hosting the monthly Wild Bunch night at Max Fish and enjoying the opportunity to open for a list of word class headliners along the way. Aside from spinning high energy sets for his fans, Infectious has made moves into producing his own tracks and planning events like Castle of Boom, a medieval themed party in 2012 , aswell as stage managing the Poomp Sound System

There's no looking back any time soon for this guy, expect to see new tracks, sets and events from Infectious as he works to build his passion for music into a career of influencing dance floors around the world to have a headbanging good time!
