Our first run of the Zeta Protocol was a success! I didn't expect this much of a success at all, I had imagined that we'd only be able to pull an object, or at most just a random person, but... no, it actually managed to bring in the person we wanted. He was confused, but honestly just seemed happy to be somewhere else other than where he was, so...

...I don't know how to feel about that. But he's with us now. I'm going to try to make sure he has what he needs.

He goes by many names. The Afterparty, the King Of The Fall, among others. We've simply decided to call him After Hours. Not much is known about this strange figure, other than that he seems... broken, in many ways. But, he knows just what to say, so we look the other way. Ring Lights

Our second run went... even better, somehow. I was actually able to communicate with another world, without just pulling somebody in without a clear vision. This makes things so much easier. Our subject was much more reluctant than our last one, but came with us eventually. Just... couldn't turn down somebody in need, I guess. Poor thing, that's probably abused all the time, if I know anything about kindness.

She seems so confused by the existence of humanity... She hasn't said anything yet, but I can see those questions in her eyes. She's been staring at After Hours for almost an hour. I don't think he's noticed, but- oh. No, he's noticed.

Remember Death

I'll be honest, Sengoku here is... a nice change of pace! She's a bit shy, content to remain in the background, but compared to these other three it's a godsend. With so much fixation on death, and the end... Having a normal girl around to change the subject when it gets too deep is very nice. Still, I don't know how much help she'd be in pushing back the Shattered... The Zeta Protocol has certainly been a mixed bag so far. Twelve more, though. Who knows, maybe I'll find the perfect person for the job? 

I sure hope I do. We don't have forever.

Every journey's got to start with a step, and Sengoku Nadeko is here to take her first! Though she's something of a romantic, it seems something may be hidden under the surface for her... not that she'd say much about it. Ghostly Circulation

You know, it's... weird. But this guy is probably the most calm one out of the group. He seems to understand the circumstance well, that no world equals no thievery left to be done. He treats it like a sport... how curious. I've always enjoyed stories of dashing thieves with noble hearts. It seems like such an antiquated concept, only seen in fairy tales... I don't know if he actually has a noble heart or if he's just here to try to rob us blind, but we have constant surveillance around the lab. He won't be taking anything, unfortunately for him.

Stop Walkin’ On Me

Well... It wasn't quite what I expected, three spider-themed superheroes wasn't on the docket for me. I actually was after a magic surgeon, I thought... but you know, this isn't that bad. They're good kids, definitely working through things a lot easier than the others, and they're quite eager to help. Not to mention, they're doing a lot to help with fine-tuning the Zeta Protocol! It's nice having other scientific minds around, I often feel alone in the room these days. They've been getting along with Harper and Sengoku well, I'm just glad those two have somebody to talk to now.

So far so good. The boss has been breathing down my neck about this, I hope this works out well to satisfy him for at least a little while...

No Way To Hypnotize

I'm already regretting inviting her. Seriously, she's been coming onto me since we got here. Unus and Annus too. And the criminal. And After Hours. Seriously, it's been... really really weird. I mean, the girl's cute, but I don't have time to do anything.

I've been told not to interact too closely with the Zeta Protocol subjects, but... honestly, I can't really help it. These are the people that are going to save us. I want to at least make sure they're comfortable and happy, it's the least I can do for them after they've agreed to help like this. With the Shattered practically breaking down our doors like this, I really want to at least know that I can trust them.

Not to mention, they're... honestly pretty nice, when you get to know them. Mostly. Jury's still out on the King of the Fall over there. As such, I can't in good conscience leave them alone. We'll be taking on another activation soon, hopefully we get somebody friendly again. The Spiders and Modeus, admittedly, have spoiled me a bit.

You know, for as much as he talks himself up, our newest arrival is actually a pretty nice guy. He's been taking to this well, bringing a... grounded look to all of this. It seems everyone here has a very unique viewpoint, but this guy's just a kid from Compton. Sure, he's seen some shit from what I'm hearing, but he's not a squid kid, or a giant killer boombox, or a... whatever AFTER HOURS is. I dunno, it kind of reminds me of home before Second Heaven. To think, once upon a time we lived in a world where this wasn't a problem. Nobody'd even entertained the thought of a "zombie invasion". 

I remember being eighteen. Young and dumb, curious about the world. Now I'm 43 and I just want everyone to stop dying all the damn time. Funny how priorities shift.

If Pirus and Crips all got along, perhaps the world would be a better place. But that isn't the case for his m.a.a.d city. The angel on angel dust may not be much of a fighter, but this good kid has his freestyles ready to take on the competition! ...Well, I guess this has turned out better than I thought. We've lost a few plants along the way, but this girl has been very, very cautious with her abilities. She seems so thankful that we've rescued her from whatever that was, and... I suppose that's with good reason. Being tested on for that long then abandoned can't be good for anyone. Frankly, I'm more surprised that she's even alive. Still, to those that could understand her, she's been a delight. We've had to find a way to translate her, and we're only just now getting that working, but it seems she knows sign-language. That's a start.

You know, maybe this whole thing won't be so bad. Even the ones I was a little more worried about have been civil through this whole thing. I can't say we've been doing half bad. I do hope we have someone vet the list though, I'd hate to have any severe issues.

For now, I need to run a few tests, figure out how to best prepare for the rest of the Zeta Protocol activations. I can't let this chance go to waste. We WILL stop the Shattered from destroying Second Heaven. 

We have to, because if we don't, there's nothing left for us.

You know, as much as I enjoy the company of the others, I've been starting to really appreciate peace and quiet. And Whisper seems to be much the same. Kindred spirits, so to speak, and I couldn't be happier. Annie and Sango have both been nice, but it's always good to have a third. This one, at least, is a little less unstable. In more ways than one, haha. I don't understand her weaponry though... it's very interesting. Under any other circumstances, I'd be practically begging to look at it, find out how it ticks... but no, these days it's not quite that easy to just drop everything and investigate fun weapons.

She seems to get along well with the Spider-people, strangely. I wonder why?

Stillness From Just A Sidearm

These two are... interesting, aren't they? They seem to both get along swimmingly and not at all. One second they're bickering, and the next they're right over each other, defending the other from a comment or a pass they didn't appreciate. They seem... close. Even still, they couldn't be further apart, beyond their interest in science. 

The queen seems to be regal and proper, but quick to drop the counteance to observe something or sputter indignantly as someone says something untoward. The machinist, meanwhile, looks to be rather unbothered, continually firing back every time one of the more rowdy members of the group gets in their business. Much more composed than Zelda. She seems to have been through a lot, her limbs are entirely prosthetic...

I wonder, what exactly has happened with these two to bring them together like this?

Who would have thought that the queen of Hyrule and the new CEO of Haltmann Works Company would get along so well? These two science-loving powerhouses may not be at their best right now, but that doesn't mean they can't come in swinging with everything they've got. Combining the world once lost, and the world of tomorrow, who knows just what magic they can conjure up together?

Haltmann And Hyrule

God, I fucking hate surprises.

Don't get me wrong, the intruder seems to be pretty alright. He's not a Shattered, we can tell that immediately. Still, someone from outside is hard to trust after all I've seen. The group seems to like him though, and the others have supported bringing him on to help, and... I can't really say no to that.

He's a charming guy. Stern but he's got a good heart, as far as I can tell. He's here to help, he says. And I hope I can believe him.

What the fuck? Where did this guy even come from?

Was he with the Doctor? Did he just... appear?? I don't know what the hell happened, but we did NOT bring him in via the protocol. Did something go wrong? I just... ugh. He seems nice enough at the onset, but we're getting too many unknowns. If this keeps going, then we're going to have a serious issue with the integrity of these experiments. But... I suppose I should start with our final guest from the Zeta Protocol. She's... genuinely the most normal person we have here. No supernatural anything, no experience with a fucked up school, no status, no title, just... a girl who likes future funk. It's a new perspective, and one we may just need. Welcome to Second Heaven. Infectious is a mashup/arrangement tournament by Spark Records, inspired by projects such as King For Another Day and Mashup Week, with a heavy emphasis on a dark storyline. This project is best enjoyed on YouTube, but we will be uploading tracks here as well.
