This is Kevin’s 16th season as Artistic Director for the Chicago Park District’s Munroe Park Theater Guild and his 25th year as a director.  In addition to directing for MPTG, Kevin has also directed shows for the Taylor Tott Theatre Company, North Region Theater, and Heartland Theater Company.  In 2011, he finished his doctorate in English from Illinois State University, and his dissertation, Breaking the Glass Case: the Role of the Director and Actively Engaged Audiences under the direction of Professor Bill McBride, is inspired by and utilizes much of his work at MPTG.  When he’s not working in the theater, Kevin teaches drama, literature, and writing as an Adjunct Professor at South Suburban College. His research areas include: directing theory and practice, drama pedagogy, pop-culture analysis, Harry Potter, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  “Go Sox in ’16!”

We worked outside under shade trees through the heat advisory on the first day with the 9-12 boys group, and stayed inside on the second with the 9-12 Girls group, going outside only to make stop motion animations. These kids were immune to the airplanes frequently descending to land at Midway Airport blocks away. These are a few tracks about living healthy, and what it takes to make functioning communities. PARTICIPANTS COLLABORATED ON BEAT PRODUCTION, AND WROTE AND READ THEIR OWN WORDS.

Songs created at Jackson Park on the first day of Summer Camp 2012.  For the past 3 years we have fit Ms. Jackson's teen campers in on the first day per her request made in February.  And for the past 3 years these park youth have helped prepare us to work with their cohorts city-wide.  Usually a challenging challenge, this year we have tracks to share post-encounter, enjoy.

We provide young people and community members of all ages and abilities with the tools to create self-authored digital media experiences. By enabling participants to produce original socially conscious works, we help to expand critical thinking skills through creative experimentation, collaboration and discussion.
