Founded in 2020, The Marquette Park Composer’s Workshop is wholly dedicated to
providing artists with a chance to have their original material performed and guided by a
group of their peers—prioritizing individuals who often would not have an opportunity to
write for large ensemble. Collectively generating at least one original 90-minute suite of
music a year (oftentimes collectively composed as opposed to any given piece possessing
only one author) it has attracted young adults and creative musicians from throughout
Chicagoland and from a broad slice of identities and origins. These master musicians then
convene in the Marquette Park Cultural Center in order to play each other’s music. In this
way, the Marquette Park Composer’s Workshop brings together Chicagoans who normally
would never meet—first in its constituency and then in its audience—using storytelling to
build bridges between its community and Chicago at large.

“Consulting With The Wizards” is a live album. Partially consisting of tracks recorded live by
the master recording engineers at Northeastern Illinois University’s WZRD radio (88.3FM
freeform!!) and partially consisting of a live document recorded by Michael Silberman at
the iconic Chicago Art Department, “Consulting” contains pieces from all major Marquette
Park Composer’s Workshop suites. UNEARTHED HISTORIES // RADICAL FUTURES (2023),
SOME REVELATION IS AT HAND (2024), and LIKE THE MOON ON WATER (2025) are all
represented in this high-energy, high-intensity snapshot of a group of creatives performing
at the height of their powers.

The Marquette Park Composer’s Workshop would like to thank Night Out In the Parks for
commissioning these suites, WZRD Radio and Carlos Flores of the Chicago Art Department
for welcoming us into their spaces, the people who choose to fund public art everywhere—
and you, the listener!!

Steve Stubig has been a Woodcraft Instructor for the Chicago Park District for over twenty five years. He works at Lincoln Park Cultural Center and specializes in wooden boat construction. Lincoln Park’s wood shop is responsible for making sailboats for the CPD youth sailing program. Steve also provides guidance for woodshop classes for participants of all ages. His experience with commercial store displays, home renovation, museum exhibitions, and design mold with his woodworking knowledge to provide expertise all projects built at Lincoln Park. Steve has been active in community events throughout Chicago including Venetian Nights, Craft-mobile, Art Fairs, Special Olympics, Woodcraft Showcase, and many other seasonal events offered by the Chicago Park District. Steve Stubig feels his greatest opportunity is to share his experiences with adults and children in the woodcraft program.

Inferno is a mobile youth arts program from the Chicago Park District, focusing on recording and media. We provide young people and community members of all ages and abilities with the tools to create self-authored digital media experiences. By enabling participants to produce original socially conscious works, we help to expand critical thinking skills through creative experimentation, collaboration and discussion.
