twominds Records second venture comes in the form of Patella’s debut EP; Natural Pathways. The four-track release prioritises percussion, while still finding space for lush pads and organic elements.

Lake Street is a low-slung number featuring snappy drums and a glitchy underlying texture. Subtle touches of rhoads piano paired playfully with organ hits round out the groove. The midway point of the track sees the addition of a ripping 909 hat, driving the track forward.

Where’s Bongo? pairs well with copious amounts of sunshine and a cold beer. A true summer number, the track is propelled by live saxophone courtesy of Rachael Travaille, and as the name would suggest, an array of hand drums!

Plastic Portal sees Patella team up with harvo to produce a composition for the time traveler. The standout element of the track is the otherworldly pad, which has caught dancefloor dwellers with their eyes closed and hands up.

The title track of the EP, Natural Pathways is of slight eastern influence. Lively trumpet stabs andcrashing snares drive this track while perky percussive elements create an ever-evolving soundscape.

Here again stepping up with a hotter-than-hot batch of his signature hi-NRG booty-shakers and classic house era-style shufflers, the Parisian-based producer treats us to an unrelenting orgy of jacking prog, ruff-edged envelopes and dusty synth swashes. 

Encapsulating the widest array of Blazers’ playful palette, the title-track is as much a homage to the intoxicatingly sensual house sound of the mid-90s as it is an unabashed nod to happy hardcore and classic acid wares from the same epoch. A doped-up maelstrom of buoyant piano stabs, processed vox and fevered drum patterns on the prowl for some raving fresh meat, this one’s got club-destroyer written all over it. Further spacious and quirky, ’Stargazer’ has us tripping out to a slo-scudding tapestry of washed-out, Sino-flavoured keys, vaporous pads and off-kilter percussive work dipped in a thick sauce of acid. Weird tropical funk laced with ambient-adjacent, meditative properties, what’s more to ask for.

Flip sides and there’s ‘Love Hotline’ taking care of the more languid, hedonistic side of one’s fantasies. All in ektachromatic mellifluousness and soft-handed chug, this is house music at its most delicate and charmingly naive, bound to trigger off feelgood memories of coastal vacations and love-in-the-air kind of moments. Rounding off the journey, ‘Klein & Blue’ beckons us onto a further exotic pathway, where the gently enticing appeal of tapping drums, faux-organic textures and late 70s-early 80s discoid fun symbiotically converge to form an equally poetic and dynamic symphony of sorts. Sprinkle that with a healthy dose of xylophonic hoodoo and balearic riffs, and you get a helluva summertime choon, all set at blasting out loud in the open-top.

B From E is a Happiness Therapy mainstay. Just last month the Dane remixed Mogan’s Monstera Tears, on the label’s lauded HT17 release. Now he follows this up with his first full Happiness Therapy EP in Just At Night. Featuring a remix by fellow Danish regular Niles Cooper, it marks a highlight occasion for the thriving Copenhagen talent.

Balancing a well-established career in Denmark with an international tour schedule is no mean feat, but in B From E’s case, that’s exactly what the Danish mainstay has been up to over the years. From Traxx Underground to Happiness Therapy, to being head of his own label Buddahood, his productions are downright infectious. Resident Advisor described it best: “Lean and smart, they're the kind of garage-tinged groovers loved by almost every house DJ on the planet, based on the time-tested combination of cheery melodies and sprightly groove.”

Shanti Celeste is a vibe. She’s got that magic lightness of touch even when things are getting Jacques Cousteau deep or panel beating heavy. This makes her the perfect candidate for the Sound of Love International 3, channelling the spirit of both those after-hours sessions and the more frivolous daytime boat parties. This is serious music for serious music heads but, after all, everyone is still on holiday. It’s linear and cohesive but plays with the emotions - carnivalesque fun, psychedelic flow-states, heads-down rhythm trax, playful skipping garage, and more abstract moments. Deep joy to deep space and back, often in the space of 3 or 4 well-selected records.

There’s a deep musical and personal connection to the festival - as she says of her first time playing at the Beach Bar, “there’s a heavy Bristol crew there and it all feels easy and nice. It was just good vibes all round”. And she does make it sound easy too, which belies a DJ with some very serious skills and an ear for a killer tune that others might well overlook. And it’s this that makes the 3rd instalment of the Sound of Love International such a joy - a welcome panacea to all of us suffering from the Croatian blues this year.

To which end, we get a cheeky exclusive collaboration between Shanti and her sister-in-arms Saoirse in the shape of ‘Solid Mass’. Persian’s uniquely British paean to the post-rave Sunrise ‘Morning Sun’, cavernous dub runnings outta the Bokeh camp from Seekers International. These are the lift- off tunes, setting the mind-state for the journey ahead.

Things tighten up with cult underground hero Lucas Rodenbush under his E.B.E alias giving us the taught, grooving, dubby tech-house and Gideon Jackson’s ‘Taj Mahal’, crisp, spatial, mystical and criminally slept-on. We go deeper into the night with Perpetual’s Awakenings’, one of those records that is so much more than the sum of its parts. And who knew that Mark Seven was such a dab hand with the dank machine funk? Check 1998’s ‘Crank’ for the skinny. By the time Paco Pack’s rubberised ghetto house reimagining bounces into play it’s GAME OVER.

The final side leaves us with the soft landing - Cari Lekebusch ‘Output 2’ is both pacey and drifting and Pauline Anna Strom’s ‘In-Flight Suspension’ does what it says, whips away the drums and leaves us floating in space. Will we ever touch down?

To overuse a phrase, this compilation arrives in strange times but is a glorious reminder of what brought us all together and will again. The music and dancing under the stars. See you in 2021.
