PLAYCES is a collaboration between @AaronRays and AX UX, two friends in travel. Each exploring new forms of creativity, PLAYCES was called to tune as a result of temporary inhabitance.

Aaron is a producer/multi-instrumentalist from California's Bay Area, who's been playing drums since the age of 4. The mysterious singer/songwriter AX UX from Brooklyn, wants the focus to stay on the music, avoiding social media religiously. On the 'Explorer' EP, they've come together to combine their deep love of bass, soul, future, and house music, resulting in an eclectic mix of shimmering synths, thumping drums and soulful vocals, enveloping warped atmospheres.

"I Know U" starts off smooth and romantic, but surprises you halfway through, becoming very fun and dancey. And the forthcoming 'Explorer' EP features a remix from Red Bull Music Academy alum Astrolith, who boasts remixes for Imagine Dragons, X Ambassadors and Cakes Da Killa.

Conrad Clifton's “HUNTER GATHER-HER” is a tribal influenced future bass banger, with an otherworldly melodic contrast. The vibe mirrors the duality in human nature, finding a balance between feminine and masculine energies. Conrad presents the POV of a male ally, focused on giving women the respect they’re due. "'HUNTER GATHER-HER' is vital and bellowing, interspersed with dialogue on gender disparity", says The FADER. Picking up where “Silent City (Everything Is Connected)” leaves off, the track starts with a four-on-the-floor house tempo, and builds up pace leading into the first massive drop.

The accompanying music video from director Sam Shannon and cinematographer Arthur Woo, depicts a battle between the two opposing energies, expressed through dance. Shot on location throughout Brooklyn, performers Angeliq Brock & Marcus Braggs deliver a beautiful interpretation of conflicting emotions, with organic movements choreographed by Emma Chadwick.

Conrad Clifton's “Silent City (Everything Is Connected)” further establishes his affinity for genre blending. This afro-house inspired track delivers Black Coffee-esque qualities, with just a hint of modern r&b, á la Pharrell or Drake. For the cinematic opening, you’re transported to a busy marketplace, in a bustling major metropolitan area. The pedestrian and street traffic gradually begin to fall silent, leaving only the heartbeat of the city. The first official single to feature Conrad’s voice, he goes with a socially conscious theme, and a philosophy of “less is more”.

“NYC is one of the craziest cities on earth, congested with millions of people, and it never sleeps. But if you happen to come home from a long night out, at 4 or 5 in the morning, you’ll have a chance to experience this city at rest. It’s actually pretty quiet. Calm, even. The street lights and bodega signs are reflecting off the damp concrete. Steam is rising from the manhole covers, as you walk to the train - it’s a time to reflect”, says Conrad.

“You wonder ‘where are all those people now? what is their life?’ And that leads to thoughts of how, all of us are what gives this city life. Then you’re down a rabbit hole pondering humanity haha. A much longer conversation, but that’s where the song comes from. I wanted to give people that existential feeling I felt. The calm in the middle of chaos. Or, at least plant a seed that starts a deeper conversation.”

Conrad Clifton goes back to his roots with this soulful house bop. His early material was all sample-based rap beats (flashback to Yelawolf’s “Down”), but now he’s serving tunes that help dance away the gloomies. If ever there was a ‘happy’ breakup song, this is it. The Brooklyn-based electronic artist is “channeling strong J DILLA and KAYTRANADA vibes on this record”, says Magnetic Magazine. “He bridges funky, soulful production, jazzy flourishes and quick vocal samples that flutter the top.”

“I found a public domain sample and had nooo idea what to do with it, until I chopped it into a hundred pieces. The “never seen a” clip is from a completely different part of the song from “broken heart”, but I knew once I put them together, it would be the theme I could build everything else around. I wanted to go for this feel of, like “f**k a broken heart, I’m still living my best life”. Some music is cool that way, it helps you get past negativity.” - Conrad Clifton

Paolo Ursino is perhaps best known in the house and techno scene as Paul Ursin, but the Italian DJ and producer delivers a more warm and organic tone under his new moniker, POLARSEN. Since releasing “Hi, Still Here”, Conrad Clifton has been building anticipation for his forthcoming ‘IS IT YOU: Beat Tape (Full Circle)’, gaining support from GRUNGECAKE, Surviving the Golden Age, and others. Today he shares the vibey new single “dreambutdontsleep”.

Conrad delivers more funky and soulful production, while keeping things uptempo and fun. It’s the perfect track to tie the new album back to the previous ‘Get Your Whole Life’, which featured “Neva Seen (A Broken Heart)” - a tune that channels “strong J Dilla and Kaytranada vibes”, according to Magnetic Magazine.

Pulling together obscure samples from wildly different genres, Conrad weaves a sort of call-and-response, from section to section. We enter a “dream” sequence around the one minute mark - full of lush chords, airy vocals, and what sounds like heaven’s doorbell. Shortly after, we’re brought back to the urgency of the hustle - that energy that reminds us, “don’t sleep”. It’s self-motivation the artist wants to share with fans.

“This is the last song I made before wrapping up the album,” says Conrad. “I really wanted to include something familiar for my listeners, and this one is so much fun. But, it also has a unique element of emotion. I always try to give a range of feelings, throughout my songs - because that’s how life is, right? It’s never all good, or all bad. We just need to learn to be content with the wave, then maybe we can really start enjoying this rollercoaster.”
