I woke up April 21st to the news of Prince's passing. As time passed, drinks were sipped and again I was asked the question, "how are you going to respond musically to his passing?" I went home faded, turned on the stereo and started banging Prince. 
  As I'm listening, I'm realizing all the memories and emotions i had stored in his music. I'm remembering how much of his music my Mom would play at high volume when I was growing up. Reminiscing on my Mothers happy face as she would dance in the house. I mean she would be busting! Dancing like she's in the club! She was good too!  I began to cry and think about my own life. I began to reflect on the passing of my Mother and Prince as a symbol of this wonderful journey we're all on. A sign of the times of my own life so to speak. To witness the death of my Mother and the recent death of a prince.
  This all represents a farewell to a childhood that has made me the man I am today. The creativity I fight viciously for and the inspiration I find along the way. All of this that keeps me on track with the God energy and means everything to me.
I've realized I have no choice but to honor his creative life by honoring my own.  
  So by taking my good friends advice with these 3 simple beats and this Hip Hop I've been working on my whole life. This is what makes me happy. Inspiration turned to creation. With heart and with love.
Rest in Peace Prince.

In May 1976 a record was released that would have an unforeseen and lasting impact on the music industry “Ten Percent” by Double Exposure was an early release on the New York independent label Salsoul Records. America was in the grip of a disco explosion with new clubs opening on a weekly basis; Salsoul saw what was happening and swiftly created a sound for their label, heavily influenced by the music then coming out of Philadelphia, aimed directly at New York’s dance-floors. Records like “Salsoul Hustle,” “Tangerine” and “You’re Just The Right Size” by The Salsoul Orchestra borrowed heavily from the beautifully orchestrated Philadelphia International records but added a more percussive, bass heavy depth that New York’s DJs loved.
So what was so special about this particular single then? Double Exposure was, after all, just another band, “Ten Percent” just another song; one of many “disco” records released that week. First of all Salsoul became the first record label to make a twelve inch single available to Joe Public - the exotic format was previously only available to DJs as promotional items or bought under the counter at certain record stores. Not only that though, the extended version was created by Walter Gibbons, a DJ at New York’s Galaxy 21 who’d built his reputation making exclusive versions of tracks to play in his sets.

In 1976 it was unheard of for a DJ to set foot in a recording studio, being seen as little more than living jukeboxes by the serious music industry. Recording studios were strictly the domain of recording artists and producers so Walter found himself in a unique position, gaining access to a world no DJ had been granted before.
Or so we thought...
The Men In The Glass Booth tells the full story. Featuring ground breaking re-edits and remixes by some of the Disco era's most influential DJs including Walter Gibbons, Bobby DJ Guttadaro, Tom Savarese, Jellybean Benitez, Tee Scott and John Luongo, this opulent release also includes a 40 page book which features exclusive photos and insights from some of the story's key figures.

One of the underground's hardest-working young producers, Oddisee has built a thorough body of work with a steady stream of albums, mixtapes, collaborations, and instrumental projects. On Rock Creek Park, he breaks us off with 10 joints that are universally chill, loaded with jazz-drenched loops offering wispy flutes, funked-out bass lines, breezy guitar licks, soft horns, and earthy pianos. “Closed After Dark," "Beach Dr.," and the vibraphone-and-ride-cymbal-laced "Mattered Much" are standouts, though the ‘80s-influenced "Uptown Cabaret" and yU collabo "Still Doing It" are also impressive. Though many of the tracks are similar on the low-BPM head-nod tip, they all sound great and make an ideal soundtrack for just keeping it mellow.
