MCP #023 with El Zárate

Recorded Sunday morning ... July 30th at The Great Beyond.

It’s been a while since I’ve put up a live DJ set. It’s also been a while since I’ve played a mostly electro set. Thought I’d take this opportunity at The Great Beyond this year to record a sunrise set driven by some of my favorite melodic electro tunes ever. Many which I’ve been playing for 20+ years.

Up first for the SWEET DELIGHTS series & hailing from the Netherlands is KIM APRIL (vbx) 

Kim April grew up in the Netherlands surrounded by a close family that loved to go to festivals, concerts and listen to music together. As a child she remembers nights at home where she was looking for her favorite music & recognized them by the album covers & always asking here family ‘Can we please play that record again!’ By the age of 20 she found her new home in Spain, Ibiza. Arriving on the island by herself and finding her way around brought her many new friends who shared the same passion for events, nightlife and music. With every year a growing love for electronic music she started to dj and produce her own tracks. Having a piano at home from an early age teaching herself to listen to songs and recreate; to now producing her own sound at the studio in the north of the island as well as home. 

Kim April’s sound is heavily influenced by the Amsterdam minimal house scene & a touch of the London underground. She can be seen on many line ups with artist like tINI, Giammarco Orsini, CAP, Ferro, Dan Andrei, ANOTR, Prunk & many more. She has also been a regular at the PIV showcases in both Amsterdam & Ibiza at the infamous Cova Santa. Next to playing Ibiza & Amsterdam regularly, she can also be seen in clubs around the world like in Milan, London, Marbella, Mykonos, Dubai and more to come.

We asked her a couple questions :)

1. What do you consider a delightful moment on the dance floor?

The moment when my friends and I are dancing in the crowd and a track is played that we love but have never heard live. It’s always the most unexpected and euphoric moment.

       2. What’s the sweetest set you’ve played to date?

I really enjoyed my b2b closing set with TENSEN for the VBX x Sunrise event time at LOFI on the Yellow House stage. At one moment during our set we looked at each other saying “Okay we are not going to stop playing till they really tell us to close it down.”

       3. What’s the oldest memory you have of your first time eating chocolate ?

I used to spend all my pocket money on kinder bueno, slightly embarrassing, cant even call it real chocolate i think now. I would always try to hide it for myself so i wouldn’t eat it all in one day. Hiding something for yourself never works which was a lesson in itself.
