The first part of the audio-novel RADICAL PETS is out! Written by NADIA DE
VRIES, this eponymous chapter is where it all starts.

NADIA DE VRIES is a poet from Amsterdam. She is the author of KNOW THY
AUDIENCE (2023), I FAILED TO SWOON (2021) and DARK HOUR (2018). She
also writes fiction in Dutch. Her debut novel DE BAKVIS (2022) was translated into
English as THISTLE (2024) by SARAH TIMMER HARVEY.

Last week, we met “Emma” (not her real name), a corporate lawyer claiming responsibility for a very non-white-collar crime. . . but why did she do it? And is it just the law that’s being broken? Her sometimes lover, Mike, who keeps his mattress on the floor, seems to have a good heart — he works at an animal shelter and even wears a “Save The Rainforest” t-shirt — but are the pups of the Peabody Animal Family really all that’s being kept caged? 

In Chapter 2, HABIB WILLIAM KHERBEK plumbs Emma’s past, taking us back to her high school days, when “kill” was just an alternative to “snog” or “marry”. . .

HABIB WILLIAM KHERBEK is the writer of several works of fiction, including ECOLOGY OF SECRETS (2013), ULTRALIFE (2016), TWENTY TERRIFYING TALES FROM OUR TECHNOFEUDAL TOMORROW (2021), and FAIL WORSE (2024) all published by Arcadia Missa, as well as NEW ADVENTURES (2020), and BEST PRACTICES (2021), published by left gallery and Moist Books. Kherbek’s art journalism has appeared in numerous publications including FLASH ART, BURLINGTON CONTEMPORARY, SLEEK, OCULA, and SPIKE among other titles. His collected art writings were published in ENTROPIA VOL. 1 & 2 (2022) by Abstract Supply.

Daisy Lafarge is a writer and artist based in Glasgow, UK. Born in Hastings, she has lived in Scotland since 2011. She is the author of the novel Paul (Granta 2021; Riverhead 2022), which won a Betty Trask Award and was a New York Times Editors’ Choice, and the poetry collection Life Without Air (Granta 2020), which was shortlisted for the T.S. Eliot Prize and awarded Scottish Poetry Book of the Year. Lovebug, a book on the poetics of infection, was published by Peninsula Press in 2023.

Her writing on ecology, art and literature has been widely published, appearing in Granta, Frieze, The Financial Times, The New York Times, Art Review, TANK Magazine, The White Review, and elsewhere.
Daisy’s visual work has been exhibited at Tate St Ives, Talbot Rice Gallery, Serpentine Galleries’ online programme and elsewhere, and twice acquired by the University of Edinburgh Art Collection. In 2024 Daisy was selected for the SHAPE x Creative Scotland Emerging Disabled Artist Award to support the development of new work.

BECKET MWN is an Amsterdam-based writer and artist. His work often begins with a close reading of a specific image or event, taken primarily from mass-media culture. These take form as spoken and printed text, audio, sculpture, and exhibitions. He mostly writes to figure things out. He also writes art criticism under the name Becket Flannery as an editor at the Netherlands-based platform Tangents.

But what is the mysterious “something” that is still drawing her forward? And where will it take her?
