Esse trio vocal, surgido na década de 60, fez um trabalho lindo e original inspirado na cultura negra brasileira. A maioria das músicas é autoral, mas eles conseguem uma sonoridade enraizada e, ao mesmo tempo, sofisticada, porque os arranjos e as execuções são perfeitos. Quem nunca ouviu nem ouviu falar, certamente vai se impressionar com a qualidade e com a beleza da música dOs Tincoãs. O grupo era formado, inicialmente, por Erivaldo, Heraldo e Dadinho, todos de Cachoeira, Bahia. O nome – Tincoã – deriva de uma ave do cerrado. Primeiramente, o grupo interpretava boleros e outros tipo de canções, sem sucesso. Em 1963, saiu Erivaldo e entrou Mateus. O grupo renovou o repertório, mergulhando fundo nos terreiros de candomblé, rodas de capoeira, de samba, e tudo o que produzisse som com cores africanas. Em 1973, gravaram um disco antológico, com músicas lindas e arranjos primorosos, cujo lançamento teve grande impacto. Em 1975, a morte de Heraldo foi um baque enorme para o grupo. Ele foi substituído por Morais e, depois, por Badu, que participa desse disco que posto para vocês. Ele é o último gravado no Brasil, porque, em 1983, o grupo foi para Angola, permanecendo por lá até sua dissolução, em 2000, com a morte de Dadinho. Esse disco é muito bonito. Reparem nos arranjos vocais, que perfeição! Dou destaque para Cordeiro de Nanã, composição de Dadinho. Tem também Enterro da Iyalorixá, de autoria de Antônio Carlos e Jocafi, que, segundo a fala que tem no meio dela, deve ter sido composta para homenagear Maria Bibiana do Espírito Santo, uma Iyalorixá baiana muito importante. O disco também tem uns sambas incríveis, como Arrasta a cadeira e Deixa a baiana sambar. Tá aí um trabalho que não pode ser esquecido.

El Gran Poder plucked Zundel from his small town of Dolores in Argentina and catapulted his sound onto a global stage. He was revered by the likes of The Fader and Bandcamp, who referred to him as an electro-folk alchemist - and that he is. 

On June 7, Lagartijeando casts a new spell with Jallalla, an ambitious new full length being released on Wonderwheel Recordings. Jallalla is a word used in Bolivia to celebrate something- and it’s a word that strengthens in meaning when more people say it together. Jallalla is an entire life in an album - beginning with what would be the sonic representation of pulling back reeds to discover a new path with the song Villazon-Potosi and its sparse electronic percussion gradually filled in with curiosity-giving winds. Following is joyful charango riff that becomes the base for the track La Frontera, which features the sweet, wispy voice of Minük, the Colombian artist Alejandra Ortiz, known as half of the duo Lulacruza.

As the album progresses, it becomes more experimental with electronic elements, sneaking in bits of deep house and dub. The fourth track is called Caña, and is a collaboration with none other than Chancha Via Circuito. It’s minimal and haunting, playing with repetitive bass, chimes, and what sounds like owl sounds. Zundel’s beloved charango sneaks back in via the next track, Adios Potosi, continuing the trek with a sweet melodic mid-album break. On the track A Todo Pai, one that celebrates Latin American identity (a todo pai, un solo maiz, repeats the song), Zundel collaborates with Javier Arce - lead singer of the Costa Rican indie-funk band Cocofunka, whose peculiar and infectious voice adds new layers onto the album. The last few songs are a mix of meditative electronic tracks and life-giving dance-floor ready numbers, all lending to Jallalla being a celebration of life and the various adventures it contains. 

Jallalla is out on June 7 via Wonderwheel Recordings.

On 3 July the Colombian threesome Ghetto Kumbe release “Tambó”, a blend of
melancholy, longing and healing ritual, the last single to be released from their debut album out at the end of July on ZZK Records.

After the release of “Vamo a Darle Duro” in March and “Sola” in June this year, two songs that provide a taste of a cathartic, social and visceral album, on July 3 Ghetto Kumbé release “Tambó”, the third and last single from their eponymous debut, out on 31 July.

“Tambó” explores for the first time this Afrofuturist trio’s repertoire in the introspective dynamics of love. It is a ritual that is born from melancholy and longing over a love that’s gone, that is far away and has departed forever, but which at the same time sets out on that journey of nostalgia over the loss, understanding the situation and finally reaching forgiveness. Band leader and singer Edgardo Garcés “Guajiro” says: “For me the drum and the percussion are something that move me a lot, so it was really important during the healing process, through each beat of the drum and every moment of singing, every dance move, joyful laughter amid the tears. In the end it turned out well, we were able to end up dancing and laughing and thinking happy thoughts.”

As part of the whole concept of the record, this is a song that reflects love from a place of sincerity, organically and intimately, it’s a necessary breath within the tribal spirit of downtempo that characterizes this new release. And as Edgardo says, “this is the moment to breathe, to exhale, and to throw out everything that overwhelms us.”

“Tambó” will be available on all streaming platforms from 3 July, 2020.
