To relaunch his seminal imprint, Infrastructure New York, Function presents his new 12", Green EP. Celebrating 27 years of Function releases this year and the label’s 25th anniversary, the label will serve as an outlet for his new material, reissues of out of print classics from Synewave, Sandwell District and Ostgut Ton (and of course, Infrastructure), as well as developing new artists and launching a long awaited Bandcamp page - exploring the annals of nearly 30 years of the Function sound. No doubt fans will be excited.
As a member of the Sandwell District collective, David Sumner aka Function, from 2007 onward was instrumental in cultivating and ushering in a new sound of dark, cerebral hypnotica - forcing the hand of change in global techno. Green EP serves as a testament to this, further exploring these depths. The EP pays homage to the day when David arrived in Berlin with his green suitcase where his record “Isolation” on Sandwell District was released, hitting the ground running and springboarding into an incredibly successful career, becoming a stalwart DJ/producer, after years as a struggling artist.

Green EP encapsulates the same raw power and hypnotic energy of his genre defining Sandwell District releases Isolation, Anticipation and Variance, updated with a modern flair. Subject f (Function) has clearly transcended, as expressed through the opening track “Initiation” arriving at his “New Designation”. On the b-side Function communicates his divine alignment through the broken beat, etheric “Aeternum (Meridian)”. Finally, Function closes Green EP with a live extraction of “Desire and Memory”, a brooding club stormer in contrast to the more experimental leanings of the original version, which appeared on Rrose’s label Eaux. One thing is clear: Function is back on track and more on form than ever!

Long time colleagues David Sumner (aka Function) and Ed Davenport (aka Inland) have teamed up to relaunch Sumner's esteemed imprint, Infrastructure. The label has been lying dormant since 2006 when Sumner focused his energies on Sandwell District and relocated to Berlin in 2007. They kick things off with a collaboration under the guise Function/Inland with this new EP, Odeon/Rhyl.

The A side, based on Photek's beatless 'Under The Palms' and released with his blessing, 'Odeon' translates a soaring, epic synth solo into an 8 minute percussion-driven version. Modulating toms rise and fall as the strings climb to new heights, resulting in a sparse and haunting moment of oblivion.

On the B side the pair work with solely original elements in 'Rhyl'. Deeply influenced by the heady days of early Warp, Skam, Autechre and pure electronica, they add a contemporary, hi-tech twist and hints of Sandwell's emotive textures. It's a stark reminder of the power of only a few strong elements, arranged by experienced hands.

First recorded and edited while Sumner and Davenport were sharing the same address in 2011, the pair shelved the material, letting it ferment for two years before the right moment arose to review the tracks and do the final mixdowns for this beautiful EP.

Essential remastered reissue from the Infrastructure NY archives that represents the start of Function's involvement in the Sandwell District project. A snapshot in time...Where all the madness began...

Sandwell District.

In the summer of 2004 David Sumner (Function), then living in his native New York City, was over in Europe playing some shows. When passing through Berlin to play the old Tresor location at Potsdamer Platz, he stayed with long term friend and collaborator, Karl O'Connor (Regis). One afternoon the two head over to Hardwax and T++ puts on a copy of Sleeparchive Elephant Island. After months of discussions regarding the flavor of the moment "Minimal", everything changed in that instant...They looked at each other and said "now this changes everything!" Finally, a way forward!

Later that night at Tresor - as Function is playing, Regis is behind him organizing a mic...As Dave mixes Regis Guiltless with Elephant Island, Karl starts singing a punk cover version of Buddy Holly Peggy Sue over his set. It's all there in that one moment!

Sandwell District.

Dave goes back to New York inspired. He sees there's no information on the record apart from an email address. So, he gets in touch...He gets a reply from Roger, the two hit it off and organize the first ever Sleeparchive remix - Regis Asbestos (Sleeparchive Remix).

On the B-side comes a cut-up version of Karl and Dave's Portion Reform classic Closing In, where they collaborate with Detroit Underground's Kero to form Re:Group. Adding deep 808 rhythms combined with Kero's signature Max MSP IDM madness, Left provides the perfect counterpart that made this EP the instant classic it became 18 years ago.

Buenos Aires based producer and Cocoliche resident Mariano DC provides the next installment in Infrastructure's return. 

The second new artist to offer original material on the label, Mariano's uncompromising Techno tracks continue the label's steady run of varied and confident output this year.

In the 90s Infrastructure's creator Function, aka David Sumner, played a string of gigs together with Mariano in Bueno Aires, solidifying a firm friendship based around the music they loved. Following his Cocoliche comeback alongside Mariano in 2013, an event Sumner would later describe as 'one of the purest Techno experiences' he'd ever witnessed - the Argentine producer offered up a wealth of material for the label's re-launch. Following a period testing and selection, these five deadly tracks were chosen to make up INF-015.

A cult figure amongst his native club scene, Mariano's brash, intense and riotous tracks on 'Stiletto' mark a timely juxtaposition to the labels three recent releases. Offering a welcome reminder of the type of Techno that is central to the Infrastructure sound, they guide us through a varying palette of moods. 

From the hypnotic sub-sonic waves of 'Kaverna', the heady heights of title track 'Stiletto', or the crunching static snares of 'Cascada', the EP briings yet another facet in the Infrastructure sound to the fore.

Mariano DC 'Stiletto' EP - INF-015 (Preview)

Inspired by his DJ residency at Limelight, beginning in 1993 at the famed the New York venue, the wheels behind David Sumner's Function project began turning. In 1996 the first wave of productions emerged, with his now classic debut on Damon Wild's Synewave label. 

Amidst a booming New York House scene, Sumner watched many producers take the big studio, big budget route towards major labels and pop aspirations. Inspired by his residency at Limelight, and fiercely independent activists like Jeff Mills or the Underground Resistance, Sumner chose techno as a purer artform, an alternate path, and Synewave numbers 24 and 30 were some of the first records to bear the name Function. 

Now, some 18 years later, Infrastructure continues its reissue series of classic Function productions, leading towards the 'Function | Recompiled: Various Works & Pseudonyms, 1995-2012' limited edition box set, due for release in early 2015. 

Both 'F3' and 'F4' are lifted from the F(Q): Function of Bandwidth EP, while 'Shift F1', originally a shorter live session included on the 'F(C): Function Of A Constant' EP, has been edited and extended by label co-partner Ed Davenport aka Inland.

Function 'Synewave Reissues Part 1 1995-97' - INF-016 (preview)

In support of their exclusive track, 'Oxide' featured on 'Berghain 07 – Part II' (o-ton87 – released 18.05.2015), Cassegrain & Tin Man present a full EP of material from the same sessions. Infrastructure founder Function will mix Berghain 07, the latest in the series of DJ mixes by the Berlin club's residents. As part of the release two 12''s will also be released featuring exclusive tracks including one from Cassegrain & Tin Man, and the in- depth A&R process for this landmark project led to the signing of this full EP from the trio.

After a series of well received EPs and numerous individual releases, the partnership between California born, Vienna- situated acid-head Tin Man and Berlin-residing techno purists Cassegrain seems to have really hit its stride. This new EP, 'Window Window', presents the first chapter in a new body of work, as focused on melody and emotional themes as it is on dancefloor satisfaction.

Reflecting a nostalgic, classic love for the Roland TB-303
and its oozing capabilities, paired with contemporary drums and detailed sound processing, the three talented musicians present their modern view of acid over four unique tracks.

The opening tones of 'Faint Faint' offer an elegant and serene introduction to the EP. The dreamy melodic piece then builds gently, underpinned by precisely timed delay patterns and a warm sub-sonic throb. This allows 'Seduct Seduct' the room it needs to break the peace then, its addictive bassline and powerful forward momentum providing the go-to track for DJs.

A tasteful combination of tough club track and contemplative, head-spinner, 'Ether Ether' works a beautifully unusual 303 line in this reduced and understated cut. Title track 'Window Window' unfolds as their closing epilogue, a 7 minute journey leading us further into the achingly touching melodic formations that pour effortlessly out of the Tin Man's synths. That's only accentuated by Cassegrain's killer percussion,
sleek sequencing and unique sound design and the result is a clear contender for the team's most captivating release yet.

Infrastructure introduce a new artist to the roster, with a brand new talent known only as Post Scriptum. 'Post Scriptum 01' is the debut full length album from the anonymous producer, to be released on 2 x 12'', CD and digital formats.

Quickly following the first ever Post Scriptum track to be released, 'Human Timescales' featured on 'Berghain 07 - Part I' (Ostgut Ton 86), this stunning full length thoroughly outlines the sonic intentions of the project over 11 other-worldy tracks.

Post Scriptum stands for rich, highly detailed modern Techno Electronics. References to Mills-School bleep and unearthly, sci-fi tones are clear to hear. The album features original photographs by Swiss mixed-media artist Julian Charrière, taken on site at a former Soviet nuclear testing ground. The negatives were first exposed through the camera, and then laid on the radioactive earth where interference occurred, resulting in the highly textured end images.

Parallels to the process can be drawn throughout 'Post Scriptum 01', where classic Techno sound sources are clear to hear, however complex processing and a very original approach to arrangement flavours and colours each track. With titles like 'Interstellar Medium', 'Decelerate At The Destination' or 'The Extreme Distance', clear Space - Time themes emerge, evoking imagery of the ongoing Human quest for survival, on this world, and eventually others.

The vinyl version of Post Scriptum 01 is structured with DJs in mind, with club-leaning tracks spanning 4 sides. On the CD version a further 3 titles can be found, with the tracklist arranged as Post Scriptum originally intended for listening in one session.
