"Robert Curgenven (1974) is a composer/sound artist drawing on the physicality of sound - not just the physical impact on the body but the way in which the auditory can shape our perception of space and the flow of time, from architectural to open space. His works span pipe organ through to feedback, immersive resonances via turntables and custom-made vinyl, as well as carefully detailed field recordings from remote areas in Australia where he lived for many years. The Wire surmises that 'behind the music—to these ears at any rate—lurk such [disparate] presences as Alvin Lucier, King Tubby, Murray Schafer and Eliane Radigue.'

From beginnings over 30years ago as a classically trained organist, the past ten years have seen him release work on labels such as LINE, The Tapeworm, Winds Measure and his own Recorded Fields Editions. Curgenven has performed extensively across Australia and Europe, including TodaysArt festival (Den Haag/NL), Ultrahang Festival (Budapest), Club Transmediale (Berlin), Sonic Acts (Amsterdam), Cork Film Festival, Lausanne Underground Film & Music Festival,  Laznia Centre for Contemporary Art (Gdansk), Leipzig Gallery for Contemprary Art Northern Territory Centre for Contemporary Art (Darwin) as well as residencies in Milan (O’), Venice (C32/Forte Marghera), Rotterdam (Worm), Berlin (Transit Lounge) and Alice Springs (Art/Land/Culture). He has presented sound, audiovisual and sculptural work in group exhibitions for Transmediale (Berlin), National Film & Sound Archive (Australia), 10 Years of Microsound (Diapason Gallery, New York) as well as galleries throughout Australia, Italy, France, UK, Germany and a solo exhibition at the Centre for Contemporary Art, Torun (Poland). He has presented sound, audiovisual and sculptural work in group exhibitions for Transmediale (Berlin), three of the four Art of Sound exhibitions for National Film & Sound Archive (Australia), 10 Years of Microsound (Diapason Gallery, New York)"

Simon Whetham is an acute listener, a field recorder, a thinker, a globetrotter, and a mobilizer. However, he is also a sonic cook. Wherever he goes, he picks up sounds and atmospheres as if they were exotic ingredients. And for "What Matters Is That It Matters", he made us a stew, slowly simmered until all the flavours come through.

"What Matters Is That It Matters", Whetham's first album for Baskaru, is slow music. And slow music deserves to be taken in slowly – you don't wolf comfort food down, you savour it, relishing its complexity, absorbing its warmth. Unlike most of Whetham's previous works, this album is not focused on a specific geographical location. As if the artist had given himself free reign. The resulting music has a career-encompassing feel, as Whetham touches base with pure field recordings, elongated instrumental textures, and treated snippets of melodies (piano, banjo). "What Matters Is That It Matters" provides an incredibly rich listening experience, pairing relevant esthetical concerns and listening enjoyment.

Englishman Simon Whetham has been exploring the art of composing with field recordings and found sounds for a decade, a period during which he released music on labels such as Crónica, Entr'acte, Helen Scarsdale Agency, and Line. He is perhaps best known for "Active Crossover," a workshop/collaboration/installation project with which he is travelling the world.

  "A short set of six pieces on this 3" disc, constructed via software, microphones and other effects.The music is quite subdued,ranging from soft crackling to sustained, quasi-ambient, near-tonal hums, to ringing metal tones embedded in liquid splatter. Each brief track is discrete and self-contained and each is a very enjoyable nugget, often bearing a beguiling percussion/electronics feel. On the one hand, there are sounds and ideas here that I'd love to heard explored at greater length but on the other, there's something very satisfying about the notion of a delicious morsel. A small gem well worth hearing."

GLEANERS rummages through the Active crossover: Mooste archive, gathering together the vestiges of our collective and disparate scurryings around the landscape. By allowing the background to almost free itself from the foreground and refusing to differentiate between incident, accident and intent, the various fragments have coalesced (with furtive guidance)into a form (in)determined by which of the residual pieces settled, and where they landed; and which pieces simply disappeared. 'Sostrato' is a mini 3" CD release from Andrea Borghi on Marginal Frequency. Hand made jewel box packaging. 

Discomateria #24, the source work for Sostrato, makes materials audible through electroacoustic transduction, and processes sound produced by the surfaces within the stage setting. The music producing instrument is a prepared pickup and turntable built by the artist. "Discomateria" is additionally a growing corpus of graphic/sculptural works of art.

Yarn sewn fabric played on prepared turntable and stylus.

Tistre is the first outcome of an experimentation with textile supports, made by Andrea Borghi in 2018, during a residency at Lottozero textile laboratories in Prato. Fabrics and yarns are the materials with which he creates discs the shape and size of a Lp. He plays them with a prepared turntable, in order to exploit the reliefs of the weft and the warp as a surface from which to produce the sound with the use of special self-built styli and electronic treatments.

Tistre follows the path taken by the artist with Discomateria, focused on experimentation with different materials such as glass, resin, metal or marble, which become the source for the production of sounds.
