Let me guess, when you learned English in school or in a private course, the process was more or less like this: 

You started with learning to reading and writing. 

You looked at a piece of paper, memorized symbols and learned how to write copy these symbols. 

Then you started learning grammar. The book is on the table. 

Think about what grammar is: it is a complex collection of rules to try to explain the way we communicate. Just think about it for a second. It’s weird right?

Finally, you tried to listen and speak without much success. 

When native speakers talk to you, you have difficulties understanding them. 

When you speak, they have difficulties understanding them. 

If you can relate to this story, then I believe I can offer you an unusual solution: 

Learn backwards. Flip the script. 

That’s the way I learned Portuguese and that’s the way our students at Inglês Nu e Cru are achieving great results. 

So we start with the sounds. There are 44 fundamental sounds in American English. If you struggle with any of these sounds, you will have extreme difficulty communicating with native English speakers. 

When you have a solid understanding of the basic sounds, we train them using simple phrases and creative conversations techniques so you can easily internalize grammar structures.

Finally, you learn to read and write and learn how to communicate with more sophistication and eloquence. 

I know, it sounds a little crazy. It should. Because it is the exact opposite of the way you learned. 

I know you have a lot of questions. Don’t I need to learn some vocabulary before I study pronunciation? 

Why is pronunciation important if people can understand me? What if languages just are not my thing?
