'Face Value' in collaboration with Kowa comes in two versions, which I guess kind of ironically means you can't actually take it at face value. In any case, the original cut has absolutely soaring epic strings and a filtered break that steps along while a variety of ever more disgusting subby tones tear the arse out of your bassbins, and the remix from previous-InHabit-alumnus Azrah takes a more low-slung groove-based approach and uses the negative space to add a further layer of percussitivity.

'Conduit' is a more subdued slice of dancefloor funk, stepping out neatly and rolling out discretely, with percussive touches, warp and weft, underpinned by a well-hidden tunefulness that belies the synthetic coldness of its tonal vocabulary. Subtle and deadly like a concealed blade. Winding things up neatly.

Focal Tone - Conduit [MMNTM003]

Powerwalking into the zoo for this next one, as we here at inHabit HQ reflect on the animal kingdom, enumerated in all its feathered and furry glory by Magugu on this abolute weapon of a tune he and HumaNature have given us for this, our latest release. HumaNature has been absolutely crushing it from his studio in Lisbon for a number of years now, and UK-based Nigerian Magugu can now add a tune on inHabit to his list of Irish connections.

Tradition - and truth - dictate we must at this juncture announce we are extremely proud to be releasing it out into the wild, like a rhinoceros that just spent a week in an animal hospital with a squadron of vets and zoologists fixing up the hamstring it tore in the course of legging it away from a poacher.

Parrots are having a bit of a moment in DnB ever since Calibre dropped a recording of a rake of them squawking away during the course of his mix for Hardwax in Berlin, and we are delighted to announce that this tune will absolutely satisfy you right from the get go if you were looking for more tunes that feature parrots. What else does this release sound like? It sounds like the rhino spun around in its heels, stabbed the poacher in his neck and marched down to the nearest watering hole.

Is It Jungle though? First of all grandad that's a question designed to insult ones intelligence, and second of all nobody gave out to Guns 'N Roses for calling a tune that either, so THERE.

There's a vocal version and an instrumental, they both bang harder than a barn door in a hurricane, go play this out as loud as you possibly can without being arrested because honestly I can guarantee you shit will hit all kinds of levels and that's what the modern game is about frankly. Welcome to the Jungle indeed.

HumaNature - Welcome To The Jungle (Dub Mix) [PREMIERE]

TEN RELEASES IN to the rapidly growing pile of inHabit releases (not
counting instalments in our "Momentum" or “Texture” series) and yet, as I type this from behind my gigantic mahogany desk here at inHabit HQ all I can think of is that I hope the weather is nicer wherever you all are than
it is here. Fortunately our next release however comes in the form of
two absolute hurters from up-and-coming bass scientist Nuskope who,
hailing from Greece as he does, at the very least is (probably) not
getting absolutely rained out of it like we are here. Does that mean
he’s written us two twinkly sunshiny starry-eyed rooftop cocktail bar
party tunes though? Does it fuck, these are crunchy grinding weapons
for dark basements with more fuck-you attitude than a squat punk band
playing on the back of a truck in the middle of a riot on Syntagma
Square.

“Vigor” is, as the name would lead you to expect, a raucous slice of
pure confrontational in-your-face energy, with a choppy funk break
getting cut and switched to bits and struggling to contain a titanic
slab of bass, as squalls of feedback fade into darkness.

“Trail Blazer” is a sharp, zippy stepper that arrives in a flurry of soaring
strings, bleeps and classic samples, and wastes absolutely time
dropping into a tearing funk workout with more deft touches and clever
trickery than an EP’s worth of tunes from plenty of bigger names than
Nuskope, so keep a  very close eye on this guy from now on. Both tunes
have been tweaked and polished by Height Mastering too so you know these are going to slap on whatever system you play them.

Big up everyone who’s supported the label so far on this journey with
us, ten releases and counting is nothing to be sniffed at and we still
feel we’re barely getting underway, so here’s hoping you stick around
for whatever the next arbitrary numerical milestone we feel
sufficiently strong enough about to warrant mentioning it in a
hype-sheet. Finally, maximum respect to Nuskope for being part of our
story now. One love!

Nuskope - Trail Blazer [inHBT010]

The sunny weather might have come and gone, but here at inHabit HQ we stay bringing the heat regardless – the struggle continues! This next release is a really special one for us, as our friend Echo Brown returns to the label for the first time since his Stutter EP with a double-edged sword forged from another kind of alien steel. Since that EP came out in 2019 he's been popping up on all kinds of crazy labels (Shogun! The North Quarter! and 1985!) and carving out a very solid name for himself as a man with many strings to his to his bow, and honestly we could not be happier. It's so nice to have him back, and it feels particularly nice to be able to release these tunes that show off a moodier side of his undeniable set of skills than some of the other labels who have been rightly scrambling to sign his material. 

'Gully Dance' enlists the frankly iconic vocal talents of Flowdan (I'm not going to insult him or you by telling you who Flowdan is or why it's a huge deal for us to have him on the wee-little-Irish-label-that-could (if you know you know and if you don't you're definitely not reading this) to build up a whole new kind of woozy, wonky, deconstructed dancehall banger.

Kicking off with an epic intro, battering ram kicks, and expertly raising the energy with layers of percussion and more twists and turns than the Donegal rally, this one is sure to have the knees knocking from Raleigh to Ranelagh.

'Block Work VIP' is a salty weapon, all square waves and sub, acidic squelch and sonar bleeps, with an escalating sense of tension resolving into pummeling urban tribalism. There is A LOT going on in this tune, and it's all brilliant. Play this when you need to see people's faces contort, when you want to see their shoulders rolling, when you need to escalate things a little. It will work. 

It's an immense privilege to be able to get this one out to the people, we hope you enjoy it as much as we do, we hope you're staying safe out there, keeping it real and watching yourselves and each other as we slowly get back to the clubs and the dances. We've played these tunes over and over again on the biggest setups we could find and between Echo Brown's studio ninja skills and Heights' expert mastering touch we reckon they will absolutely strip every flake of paint off all four walls of any venue you care to play them in, so g'wan out there and give it a lash.

inHabit is proud to present our first release since Imbolc, the first day of the Celtic Spring, a day of great spiritual energy; the Cailleach of legend went out gathering her firewood, and the sheets of slate grey cloud that day gave us hope for for brighter days and weather in the weeks and months ahead. The goddess Brigid, traditionally venerated at Imbolc, many of whose attributes were subsequently vested in Saint Brigid, was strongly associated with things of higher physical dimensions - mountains, fire, hills, but also with things of a lofty intellectual nature; wisdom, excellence, perfection, high intelligence, poetic eloquence, craftsmanship, the ability to heal, the art of brewing, druidic knowledge and skill in warfare.

All of this is a very nice way of saying that we are proud to be in a position to release music by an extremely promising young Irish producer from the People's Republic of Cork, or the Rebel County as they'd call it, making this our SECOND full release from a Cork producer, and honestly if a Dublin label can sign two producers from Cork then surely labels from cities with less complex relationships with Cork had best believe they can too. On to Tone Walsh anyhow, a man whose productions have from a very young age and over the years since been slowly maturing into some of the hottest properties in Cork since the Tans set fire to the place. He returns to the label with his debut solo release after dropping his track 'Real Life' on our inHabitants VA in 2021.

'Ubuntu' is a lowrise, minimal groove weapon with a gargantuan bassline and enough gruesome tones and fills to stick out head and shoulders over almost anything you play it with, and the courage to deep it out and twist up a rock solid groove that many of his peers would leave well enough alone. 'Djembe' follows it up with a pacier, more linear step that he proceeds to systematically attack with offbeat percussion playing call and response with all manner of guttural gurgles and groans. These are absolute rippers mate, stop reading this and cop them already.

Tone Walsh - Ubuntu

inHabit is proud to present the next installment of our occasional Momentum series, where we give producers from around the world one job, and one job ONLY: to meticulously craft us a quiver of explosive darts – secret weapons to paralyse the competition with and send dancefloors so far into the Zone they'll have a hard time ever finding their way back out. In the hot seat this time around is Able, a name that's quickly become a byword for innovative, propulsive music on labels like Critical and Monk Audio. Hailing from Guildford, Able has been lashing out absolute heaters like “Saag” on Critical for a number of years now and if this EP for us is any indication of what's coming down the line in the future then you'd better believe big things lie ahead.

On to the tunes - “Crescendo” is a rolling, steppy lurcher with slabs of grizzly bass whirring and gurgling over a heady wave of sub frequencies. “One And The Same” starts off as a call and response riff so catchy you'll be digging your old facemasks out just to listen to it, then develops smoothly into something more cerebral via a tense breakdown. Title track of the EP comes in the form of “Yes No Maybe”, a punishing, crushing groove gets switched up and punctuated by memorable vocal snippets, switches and edits, and a second half full of more ideas than many producers would put in a whole release. Rounding off the whole package, and making a welcome return to the label, N-MON1C turns in a remix of “One And The Same” that proves yet again that Cork city is an absolute hotbed of Irish DnB excellence in 2022. All tunes have been mastered to perfection by Heights; say no more in other words.

We have no answer to war other than to stand against it. We urge you to play these absolute rippers as loud as you can get away with, on the biggest speakers you can arrange, for crowds of your best friends, and their friends, and THEIR friends too. Welcome them all in, the stranger and friend and neighbour alike, and make the room shake with sub bass, and make the many become one, because love, community and
solidarity are the only forces that bombs and bullets are powerless against. Practice peace.

If there's one thing we're keen to do more of, it's support the DnB and jungle scene. The Irish scene has been gathering steam in the background, consistently putting out quality, and keeping its head fully immersed in the sound. 

We're proud to report back that it's stronger than ever, and this latest release from Irish label inHabit proves just that. Today we premiere the track 'Circles' by Rizzle Feat. Georgia Rose.

Those of you who've been following the label a while know that whenever they find the right material they like to make space for the deeper, more musical moments to shine through, and that's what this collection here is all about. They're coming at this series from a different angle again this time too, with a four track EP that centres the considerable talents of extraordinary vocalist Georgia Rose. Four of their favourite producers, Brainwork, Subdue, Rizzle and Thread have built and arranged a tune each around four full vocal performances, each bringing their own perspectives. Today we premiere one of our favourite tracks on the EP 'Circles' by Rizzle Feat. Georgia Rose.

Returning to inHabit again and fresh off the back of an extremely impressive Metalheadz release, Rizzle shows off a different side to his productions with EP title track Circles, with strings, melody and bass all doing their thing, using cleverly edited and tweaked vocal cuts and edits from Georgia Rose. 

These four tunes will get you out of some tight spots, they'll lift you up, they'll rescue any floor that's flagging in the absence of feelings, you can dance to them with your eyes closed or open, we hope you enjoy them in the company of friends and friends you haven't made yet.

Four Four Premiere: Rizzle Feat. Georgia Rose - Circles [inHabit Recordings]

Next up on the Irish DnB circuit is a release from local badman Colm Brophy aka B-Origin.  Today we premiere his track 'Rebuild' from his formidable EP 'Absentis' out on April 22nd on Ireland's very own inHabit Recordings.

Brophy has been knocking around the DnB scene for some time now, turning heads with an encyclopedic knowledge of the music and a real DJ's ear for a subtle rhythmic element which has clearly cut through to his production style. His ever-growing catalogue of releases are all testaments to the power of reduction, weight, and subtlety which are qualities shown throughout his productions.

Today we premiere “Rebuild” which finishes off the EP in more ways than one. A revolving sequence of gnarly bass tones each one more gruesome than the last cut over piledriving subby stepper's groove. The entire EP is full of weapons-grade dancefloor ammunition. What more could you people possibly want?

‘Sense’ opens with a rounded and clean soundscape accompanied by minimal percussion and echoing synths. The bass rumbles and begins to show its presence and a taste of what will follow while edgy synths slice in and out. 
In the drop, the bass and synths are fully released to create a cutting yet rolling style track. The addition of airs encompassed within create a transient drifting atmosphere as synths and bass tones consume you as the track fluctuates up and down in energy rhythm. Bristol has an enviable history in this music, stretching from the days of the The Wild Bunch, Smith & Mighty and Massive Attack through to Full Cycle and latterly Jungle Syndicate and Sofa Sound, not to mention the hundreds of producers and DJs who have moved to the city for inspiration and collaboration over the years, so it’s safe to say that it takes an awful lot for a young producer to stand out there, and yet over the course of the four tracks on this EP that is exactly what Kidsonic does. Effortlessly showcasing the many strings to his bow, this EP moves from heads down rollers like “Altum”, call and response tribal steppers built around catchy vocal samples like Deeper Love, as well as an artfully constructed vocal banger crafted around the unmistakable bars of MC Swift.

Each of the tunes has been getting plenty of early support on radio and on livestreams and we are entirely confident that no matter how long it takes until the clubs open their doors again this EP will still sound fresh enough to play at the welcome-back party.

Each of the four tracks that make up his debut release on our label showcase a slightly different side of his art, commencing with the blurry, switchblades-and-circuitboards Cyberpunk gurgler that is Terra Firma, and ending four tunes later with the smacked out dissociative crescendos of Clandestine, having zigged through the celestial heights and murky depths of Bermuda, and zagged through the pummeling tour de force that is Alien Trip, and honestly, who even does that anymore? And why not? This is the real deal, kinetic, agoraphobic soul for people who have heard it all before but need beats that make them FEEL something as well as beats that make them move. Melody, atmosphere, space, soul and texture are our defining criteria for this passion project, and these two tunes by Brainwork bring all of the above in spades. Hailing from Australia, and responsible for a growing pile of gorgeous little heaters on labels like Fokuz and Differential, Brainwork brings a range of atmospheres, moods and textures to the table here in a confident, poised release that shows off all of his strengths as a producer.

'Hollow' kicks things off with a bleepy riff that's as glacial as it is intriguing, and it quickly draws for the big warm pads, fathoms-deep bass, and a yearning neo-soul vocal before a succession of surprise injections of grizzly walls of distant reese resolve into an intricate call and response.

'Phantasm' takes a more linear approach to things, keeping it on a bubbling, steppy swirly gurgly tip before the moneyshots (and there are many) start to fade in with the gradual, internally consistent and practiced ear of a master arranger. Hooks you to the floor and keeps you spellbound. We were absolutely blown away by these tunes when we first got our hands on them, and we're only delighted to be getting them out there to the people. We hope these grow on you as much as they did on us, and that they keep you warm all through the cold nights ahead before spring turns into summer and the world is at your feet again.
