He now returns aiming for the brain with his own remix EP in hand. Oby’s latest musical project is an aural inquiry into the pleasure-inducing chemical, serotonin, which lends its name to this EP. The Serotonin Remix EP is a collection of Oby’s Serotonin single and various remixes.

The EP is a collaborative endeavour between Oby and five phenomenal Dutch producers. On Serotonin, we witness Oby Nine, Jarreau Vandal, Umoja, Moiety, Moods and Esteble all flexing their production chops. Each producer offers his own interpretation of Serotonin, by way of structural and melodic re-arrangements. Radiating from the eclectic re-interpretations, Serotonin Remix EP takes on the air of cohesive divergence.  The EP’s overall sound is solid and consistent, whilst sounds of individual tracks are deviations from one another. The heterogeneous styles of contributing producers induce a sense of musical adventure. A sensory trip, where the listener hears, feels and envisages familiar sensory patterns albeit each pattern being quiet unfamiliar.  As Oby Nine puts it “my idea for this EP is to create something that can help release serotonin in the brain of listeners”, that’s exactly what this EP has achieved.

Oby’s remix EP charts through UK garage, house, Brazilian bossa, groovy bass and crispy beats.  The elusive novelty realized by Serotonin Remix EP is its holistic sound. The manner by which it moulds various distinctive sounds into one “feel good” expedition. An expedition of the mind as variations of serotonin is released into the brain.

Welcome to the inaugural edition of INI's 13 Mooncycle Mix.

The idea of the 13 Mooncycle Mix is based on the natural time phenomenon. Within the system of natural time, it takes the moon 28 days to orbit the Earth; it makes this orbit 13 times each year. Each of the 13 moons possess unique characteristics, the purpose of then of the 13 Mooncycle Mix is to use each moon as an inspiration. Come each 28th day, INI invites an artist to curate a mix for the new moon, giving them total creative freedom to interpret, signal or share whatever they so desire to as homage to uniques of each moon.

For the first instalment, we asked a friend of the movement, the serial ethnomusicologist, El Buho, to do his thing. Boy, he sure did his thing. 
The idea behind this mix is based on concept of 'fluidity'. With this in mind, El Buho has curated a flowing piece of music bathed in moonlight, fit for a dark, mysterious evening filled with hooting owls, swaying trees and tribal rhythms to dance around the fire. 

The mix features new music, original edits, remixes and exclusives from El Búho, Simon Díaz, Captain Planet, Sidirum, JWCM, Caetano Veloso, Nicola Cruz, Acid Pauli, Lulacruza, Blocktreat, Barrio Lindo, Populous, Chancha Via Circuito, Ouska, Thomash, Dunwich, Puelche, Tremor and more.

"'Pinocchio Story' is a haunting exploration of the psychological traps that fame and public adoration create. This track delves deep into the dichotomy between public persona and private reality, examining how the relentless pursuit of validation can corrupt the soul. The creation of this piece emerged from my observations of celebrity culture and its often destructive impact on authentic self-expression. I wanted to capture the internal struggle of an artist caught between genuine creative expression and the demands of an audience hungry for a specific image.

Musically, the production balances ethereal atmospherics with grounding beats that mirror the lyrical themes of being simultaneously elevated and controlled. The vocal interplay between the verses represents different aspects of the psyche at war – the authentic self versus the manufactured persona.

This track was born during a period of intense reflection on my own relationship with creativity and audience. The collaborative process involved stripping away layers of pretense to reveal something raw and truthful about the human condition. The dual vocal approach with different artists represents the fragmented nature of identity when under public scrutiny.

"Pinocchio Story" isn't just commentary on fame – it's an examination of how we all perform versions of ourselves in different contexts, and the psychological toll of disconnecting from our authentic core. The chorus embodies this tension between freedom and constraint, between being true to oneself and living up to external expectations. The title references Carlo Collodi's Pinocchio – particularly Pleasure Island, where immediate gratification leads to transformation into something less than human. This mirrors how celebrities often magnify their grandiosity to drown out their inner voice, refusing to acknowledge the psychological price they're paying for fame. Like wooden puppets with strings pulled by public expectation, they lose their ability to navigate by their own internal compass.

This release marks a new chapter in my artistic evolution, one that prioritizes honesty over approval and substance over spectacle. It's an invitation to listeners to question their own relationship with authenticity in a world that often rewards performance over truth." - ii

As we enter the summer of 2025, UK based DJ duo Village Cuts proudly present their remix of Avana Va, unifying three nations through an dynamic club version that has already become a staple in their DJ sets.

The track is solidly underpinned by a UK Garage-esque beat, accompanied by the virtuosic riffs of celebrated Kenyan guitarist Michel Ongaro alongside Sidney Simila’s sultry vocal harmonies.

With it’s DJ friendly structure and low-end energy, Village Cuts’ interpretation of Avana Va could only have been made in 2025, designed to bridge Nairobi and London’s club scene, whilst at the same time keeping the hallmarks of Kenyan Benga music intact.

Amsterdam, NL / Nairobi, KE — Kenyan multidisciplinary artist Kuiyu and Dutch producer/DJ Jo Bissa announce the release of their long-awaited single, “Free ‘N Indie.” The genre-bending track—six years in the making—melds rub-a-dub riddim with Afro-spiritual poetry, ancestral chants, and a bold reflection on freedom in the age of hyper-capitalism.

Rooted in a chance meeting at Nairobi’s Bengatronics Studio in 2019, Free ‘N Indie began as a spontaneous studio experiment during the Wakenya Tuongee project—a music initiative celebrating Benga fusion and pan-African sonic storytelling. Though Kuiyu is not traditionally a Benga artist, he lent his voice as a project manager and cultural conduit. It was during this season of collective creativity that the idea for Free ‘N Indie was born.

Pcm & Manik - African Guide Ft. Pete Philly

What would happen if you lock up a bunch of producers and musicians from different backgrounds into a studio complex for several days and give them complete creative freedom to record whatever they like? 

This is the question that music label INI Movement asked themselves. They decided to set up an experiment in their own studio complex in Haarlem. They invited a varied group of artists consisting of several members of brass band Gallowstreet, Rilan & The Bombardiers, Umoja & Pitch Controller Mitch. 

Guests that stopped by include Freshy Jazz and members of The Mauskovic Dance Band. The above mentioned contributors have helped each other with their personal projects but have never recorded in such a 'supergroup jam session type setting' where there was no directive style to the project. It could be seen as a collaboration in the style of supergroups like Soulquarians, Native Tongue or Odd Future. 

The result is a blend of different genres where the styles, tastes & speciality of each contributor meet. This is displayed in the tracks 'Berimbao' and 'Crappy Samba' where Umoja, best known for their tropical tracks and edits, is backed up with live recorded brass sections by members of Gallowstreet. Or Pitch Controller Mitch 
(formerly known as DJ for the group Pete Philly & Perquisite) not only contributing as producer, but also experimenting with his own vocals on 'Give It To Ya' & ‘A Star Is Born’. Also Rilan (lead singer of Rilan & The Bombardiers) can be heard on several songs including ‘Put Yo Feet Up Off The Wall’ where he complements the Disco & Funk drenched track with his raw vocal appearance. 

The young and talented multi-instrumentalist Lucas van Ee (Saxophonist in the group Gallowstreet) showcases himself as an established producer in many of the productions. 

The Collaboration 
Just like the collaboration between producers & musicians, collaborations have also taken place in the creation of the artwork (Photography by INDVDU edited in collages by visual artist Harm van Ee) and the creation of three music videos to be released along the way (one of which displays choreography by international dance phenomenon Roche Apinsa). The name Birdhouse is drawn from the nickname of INI's studio complex where this all went down. We dub this album 'Birdhouse Sessions Vol. 1' as an ode to this beautiful place that allows us to share our passion and experience complete creative freedom. One Love.

Benga Belt Vol. 1 album is a clear attempt at unifying the pop sounds of Kenya, rooted in the cultural heritage of benga music and drawing creative inspiration from the Benga Belt of Kenya (from Kisumu in Western Kenya to 
Kilifi in South East of Kenya). TUONGEE WAKENYA references the extremely nuanced cross generational and inter-tribal conversations brought forth by the original compositions of Boaz, Jagingo, Missing Rotich, Msupa S, John ‘Kakee', Musyoki Mutua and the Abakisimba Troupe. The album is grounded by the prowess of Udulele John and Michael Ongaro on the guitars while Oduor Bernard Kidum holds
