Distilling this one into words is nigh on impossible. A start to finish masterstroke of slow, spiralling avant-erosion. Intermittently haunting, consistently searching, and touched with heart wrenching moments (hold tight 4 yonkers!).

Enigmatic musician / composer / poet Jan Van den Broeke has been sharing music from his home in Gent, Belgium since the 1980’s. 

Through an array of projects and aliases [see absent music, June 11, the misz, canto de mudo, to name a few…] Jan has found space to express his own sound in the world. Recent retrospectives 11,000 dreams [stroom 2017] and lost and latest [ee tapes 2020] demonstrate the idiosyncratic sensitivity of his music – an endeavour he describes as ‘exploring a dream.’

This mix integrates field recordings and vocal samples with music from friends and inspirations past / present. Serene, it prompts introspection and catharsis. There is something indescribable and emotive here – perhaps arising from the pairing of songs and samples – either way, it’s an honest beauty.

Been savouring the dregs of a summer that, as of yesterday, is OVER. But empty glasses need filling, and the recent in-ear companion for this endeavour comes courtesy of Airbear. 

Hands down one of Seoul’s best, Aaron is consistently out there doing the do. Selection here is unsurprisingly next level - tempo bending and totally seamless, legit mind nourishment. One for the deep, ethereal, kosmische heads.

Civility costs nothing and neither do these mixes. Storm Eunice edition comes to you from the nicest of all strangers, Silvia. 

For some time now, Nice Strangers has been a go to deep listening show on noods radio. It’s host, Silvia, is one of the kindest heads around and can be found most weeks sharing sounds at honest jons. Her Sagome parties in London curate and connect some of the most thoughtful musicians around. While the respective Sagome label has been making space for all things avant and experimental.

This mix is certainly one of the deepest I have shared. Thoughtfully textured with sensitive arrangement of vocals and melody, its one for finding catharsis in the remnants of winter. Hope u enjoy.

a lullaby from the sleepless mind behind the always killer kashual plastik. frans weaves ancient futures of sound in a way only his discerning ears could. intra-acting voices, fragile and distant, entangle and engage. punk melodica, folk insomnia, and all the hums and echoes that meander in between.

a prescription confesses little from this distance, but sound casts its own worlds in the spaces between. in this mix minou oram takes u to her cathartic place.

it means a lot to share a recording from them. I don’t know how to express it. maybe like diane once said, it’s a secret about a secret. the more it tells you the less you know.

this one features music that seems to capture the gravity of one place in exchange with a new space and force. a vaporous melange of melancholia and euphoria. metronomic and infinite. that dose of diazepam, guiding the slow death of a year.

starting the year with a mix from bologna’s carolina martines. been fortunate enough to see all kinds of scenes in mickey zoggs, but few moments musically resonate like carolina’s roll through set after the normcore party back in july. it still pops into my head every now and then. full room transfixion.

I got this mix just in time for one of those trips two weeks back. dubbed out, cosmic, with zero concern to conform, it’s 3hrs ov mix totally at ease with letting go. music like this could only come from one of the realest, jaye ward. being introduced to jaye’s sounds from early on has been of one of life’s better coincidences.

The first inis:eto mix comes from AZ, owner of Revelation Time in Osaka. Revelation Time is a store renowned for its welcoming atmosphere and careful curation, with each record passing Eiji's ears before reaching your hands. It's a place of dialogue and discovery, a brilliant room in a busy city. 

The following is a beautifully abstract and healing selection, casting light on some lesser heard music from Japan. Enjoy.

On Thursday evenings Yohei Kunitomo aka Pianola can be found at Forestlimit in Hatagaya. Here he and the ideala crew spin deep on one of Tokyo's finest sound systems. 

A mindful selector, Yohei has committed much of his life to finding and sharing music. Alongside ideala parties, Yohei runs the avant-garde and experimental section at HMV Shibuya, organises various pop up record fairs across Tokyo, and hosts a consistently excellent show exploring thought provoking soundscapes on London's Soho Radio. 

Yohei has recorded his inis:eto mix from an ideala session at Forestlimit. Reflective and affirming, it is a fitting soundtrack for late summer introspection.

Chloé is a French DJ living in Tokyo. 

For the past five years, she has immersed herself in the city’s music community, working at spaces like bar bonobo and forestlimit. In that time, Chloé’s piquing interest in records has developed into a keen instinct for unearthing exceptional music. 

Inspired by the memory of a trip to Okinawa, Chloé’s mix is an immersive listen, offering insights into the unique temporal flow of the Ryukyu Islands.

Greenpoint NYC is home to William "Speculator" Burnett, a label running producer, collaborator and DJ. Most weeks he can be found at the thing or hosting his longstanding WTBS show on The Lot Radio. 

Will’s label, WT Records, is a consistent source of excellent music. Focusing on overlooked and emerging talent, it has cast light on Nao Katafuchi’s Japanese New Wave, Teachers’ vocoder pop, Tagwell Woods emotional acid, Paul Woznicki’s experimental synth works and Ex Vivian’s bedroom folk. 

Balancing challenge with reward, Will’s own productions are diverse and often depend on the alias he adopts. His music has been released on various labels including the trilogy tapes, L.I.E.S, and rush hour’s ‘no label’.

Navigating through a broad range of emotionally charged dance music, this mix is a worthy companion for keeping warm on colder evenings.

Back again and with a mix from the hands behind all night flight. 

Tom has been thoughtfully curating the selection at his physical and online store for a few years now and has nurtured the anf concept into a highly recommended label, with a range of side projects like the tabi tape guerrilla mix series and  monthly (not to be missed) NTS excursion. 

Exiting from the mundane sameness of LD3.0 and reaching out into the mystic, this mix is an engulfing listen that intertwines the textured and tranquil with all out raw experimental jammers. Songs that somehow render the ongoing goings on obsolete, even if just for an hour, dive in!

all night flight

Luīze details an enveloping, introspective, and emotive soundscape that documents field recording trips to Florence, alongside birdsong imitations, and the undulating harmonic complexities of sacred chorus and ancient folklore. 

At points, this mix feels totally beyond music, while at the same time retaining all the intricacies of feeling that only music can articulate. Deep trïp nrg.
